Pocahontas
« on: April 04, 2010, 06:07:51 AM »
SUP'er who paddles on his knees rather than standing.  May 2010 surfer mag definition page 85.

I always thought to stand up surf you needed to be standing.  With the name of pocahontas attached to the knee paddler maybe its enough to change your way

and STAND UP.

Just thought I would share with you.

You know, sometimes i think that surfers are the most childish bunch in sports...

So much selfishness, name calling and general cry baby attitude...

"This is MY sand box...this is MY toy...My toy is better than yours...you poo-poo head"

Even here/us that "discriminated" by the "regular"surfers, we can barely post something without using pejorative names...

Standup, kneel, sit down, lay down, I don't care as long as you're enjoying yourself.  It's called having fun.

You must be joking. Either that or you've never done the sports I do. Car racing makes surfing seem open and welcoming. So does motorcycle racing of all kinds. I don't golf or play tennis, but I hang out with folks that do. Wow. Do it right or go home, and do it right means do it my way. Nobody just having fun on the links or the courts. Skiiers really do still hate snowboarders, and snowboarders think skiiers are clueless fuddy-duddies. If you wakeboard you think waterskiers are something arcane, like ballroom dancers on water. Waterskiiers think wakeboarders are vandals and punks. Baseball vs. softball, football vs. soccer vs. rugby vs. those wacky aussies. Muslims vs. Christians vs. whatever.

Human nature. Not pretty, but we're wired that way.

You have no idea WHY someone might be kneeling....I've spent a lot of time on my board on my knees...especially in the early days...on a bad day I COULD'NT stand. A tumor in your brain will make the concerns of others pretty meaningless. Am I supposed to be concerned with what others think when I have to kneel on a bad day? I'm with H2O....much easier to just not give a shit what others think of you. Myself...I just enjoy seeing people have fun...couldn't care less what it is they are doing so long as they aren't destroying property or endangering others. We would all be better off with a little less rush to judgement...and that goes for life in general...not just on the water.

There's also currently an entertaining "The worst magazine I've ever seen" discussion on swaylocks.com.  Then there's all the other entertaining threads over there.  I also have no shame in kneeling down at times or concerned about what anyone else thinks about it.  Maybe I'm stretching out, working the core out in a different manner, and resting some other areas all at the same time.  Usually there's nobody else around here to see anything anyway.

I doubt if she would be called names or given the stink eye.  Every line up should have one or two.

I HAVE found that (so far) SUP'rs and kayakers (maybe it has something to do with the paddle) are a more open friendlier bunch than most sports enthusiasts. Least where I live.
