Vid from last weekends SUP race.
« on: March 16, 2010, 09:40:32 PM »
Just a local race and it was great to see new people having a go no matter what board of experience level.

I was on my Naish 17.. Notice how well it goes around corners when I use the rudder.

DJ,
It looks like you have got the hang of that new board - it flies! I was amazed at how sharp you took those corners. Are you going much onton the back of the board when you are using the rudder?
How do you rate the 17 versus the 14 now?

I'm standing in the normal paddling position when using the rudder.. I don't think you could get back on the board and still reach the rudder steering arm.

I had a good down-winder yesterday and I used my 14.. It seems to fit the bumps on the bay better.

You can't really paddle hard for a bump until the nose drops down the back of the bump in front of you but the 17 is so long that half the board is hanging off the back of the bump that you're on and you can't get it to drop over.

I know that going on an angle is the answer but it's not that easy.

The 17 is a quicker board on flat water for sure but right now I'm liking the 14 more for down-winders.. If your down-winders are in the open ocean with ocean swells I'm sure the 17 would be a better board.

That was fun to watch! It was cool watching you ever-take (almost lap) everyone! Did you give everyone a head start just for effect?!  ;D

Very neat indeed.
