Which paddles are good??
« on: February 12, 2010, 11:39:11 AM »
i am looking at a few different sup paddle, i'd like the quick blade, with the color trim, but i also like the look of the x-paddle, with the larger carbon fiber pattern, they call it 12k. that's a bit price different but that's not the case, i want one that has looks and function, had anyone had experience with the x-paddle??

There are lots of good paddles out there.  But you need to be a little more specific - are you looking for a surfing paddle or a flatwater/downwind paddle?

I'd worry less about looks and focus on function. That said most of the better paddles are pretty slick looking. Paddles are as personal as boards, find one that works for you in the conditions you plan on using it in. Demo if you can.

Good luck

i want a paddle mostly for flatwater, i think i am more into the x paddle 12k because of the look. i've feel it on my hand once and i remember its was as light as the quick blade, and cheaper.  i just wanna see if anyone had used one. thanks

Havent used it, but I had it in my hands too, and I thought that if price was an issue that it would a good alternative to the more expensive Quick Blade or C4s....

Do you have some pics of this paddle? It gotta be nice
if your buying it for looks. Never Done that but there's a first for everything.

My take... get the paddle that suits your needs... and has the best local support for repair / damage / replacement issues.  If this is going to be your only paddle, it stinks to be drydocked while waiting for it to be fixed.

I am a quick blade guy.  Kanaha for every day, Peahi for when I am riding a bigger board, Kanaha race for distance paddles.

My 2 pennies.

you're going to get a different opinion from everyone who replies. the best thing to do is to try them out before you buy. i personally like the Werner spanker, others like a smaller blade for surfing. it all depends of your paddling style, size, technique, etc. i personally dont like the Kialoa paddles. they are great quality, but flex too much for me (i prbably get more flex than most since i am 6'2" tall and use an 81" - 82" paddle) and and the blades are too small for my style. i also like the digedral on the Werner paddles that reduces flutter dramatically, then again others think the kialoa's dont flutter, and they dont have dihedrals.

I like Kialoa's too but my paddle is only a 78".  Maybe at your height they are not as good because of the flex of the long shaft and  needing the dihedral.  I never thought about the height thing.  Good food for thought.  I am kinda loyal to kialoa's because of paddling them so many years on OC-1.

Funny, I never thought any one paddle looked any "cooler" than another, shows how un-hip I am. ;)

That must mean my rattle can custom spanker turns more than heads....maybe stomachs.... ;D

After my DIY repair I decided to make it more visible after a wipeout and from shore.
