My 10' Bonga Perkins rips. Fast, surfable, longboard feel. It's good for an average rider up to around 190lb. They still sell them out of Hawaii, check out Southpoint epoxies on line. I used to carry them until Global gave up the Southpoint line and they went on their own.  I weigh 190, 6' and use it when the waves get good. I still have one left in inventory as of this time. I'll then switch to riding the 9' & 9'6" McTavish when they are shipped, but keep my personal 10' Bonga.

wardog: the outline of the mullet doesn't look all that different from the 10.5 starboard, just a little more extreme.  but the devil is in the details.  does it have concave in the bottom?  what's its rocker profile like?

More than just subtle differences...the devil is definitely in the details...;-)

Dunno if this will help, or exacerbate, your case of nose rider paralysis by analysis...;-)

I have thought about the Icon but I heard it's real heavy.  What's your take?  Then, after thinking about the Icon for a while, I started pondering the 10' Naish Mana, and that's where I am right now.

The Icon does look like a fantastic board, though, or at least Ivan sure makes it look that way.  He really is something else.

Have you ridden the Naish?  Can you compare n contrast it w/ the Icon?  Which do you think would have better longboard-style noseriding & boardwalking characteristics?

"real heavy"...hmmmm...

My scale has both of them at 25.2 lbs...
The Coreban distributor tells me that they have to this day not had a single broken in half SUP...
They are solid...look at the 3D cutaway...and, add in Cobra factory production quality...

I don't feel that the Naish Mana makes a great noserider because of it's rocker profile...this is based on personal experience when I move way forward on our 9'5" Mana demo board it tends to bog down...it doesn't start  to fly until you get back on the tail...

Ivan definitely walks the nose on the Icon vid clip...

Gong boards are awesome (the shaper - Patrice Guenolé - is one of the european SUP pionneers, was a French longboard competitor, sells direct for low prices, and he tries to make very specific boards, not compromises). The board you see is designed to be the ultimate noserider, and from the reports it fullfills its mission

However, he cannot keep up with the demand, and is so deluged by mails that it can be tricky to order by email. The boards I ordered from him took from 2 weeks to 10 months (and counting) to receive after the initial order. But I am so pleased with the shapes and light and tought construction that plan to order only from him.

If you want one, just order one from the (new) e-shop http://gongsupshop.com/GONG-SUP-101-NEVER-STICK-HIGHTECK as trying to mail him will be a very slow process. Or have your local shaper make you a similar one.

Linter, I have a Mana, it's a great board but not a nose rider. Too much rocker and I think too wide.

What about a Laird Person Arrow?

The older Oxbow 10' is a long board.  Beautiful board too, blue/blue grey.  I don't know if they still make it, but you could probably find a used one for not too much.  A guy I know that runs a surf camp teaches the fat, old men on it and doesn't tell them its a SUP :D

Update to my post in June now that this thread has been bumped...

The new Pure version on the Coreban 10' Icon is out...and, is weighing in at 22.6 lbs...down from the 25.2 lbs of the Core construction of the icon or the Naish Mana...

thanks, raf.

meanwhile, w.d., my understanding is that while the icon may be shaped more like a noserider, it's got the same nose-rocker issue that the mana has -- i.e., there's too much of it.  so, i'm going to sit tight and see what the future holds.

My 2cents:
The Icon is a great noserider. Embrace the rocker! it's there for a reason, and your noseriding capabilities will not (necessarily) be affected. In fact, depending on the waves you surf, you might find your way to the higher line a little faster on this board, and then when you step back, you can really get some drive out of a turn.  The Icon is an awesome mix of radical off the tail surfing and classic up front nose riding. I'm not sure of your weight, but if you are on the heavier scale, don't be afraid of the Core construction (25ish lbs), that'll give you some good anchoring while hanging the piggywigglies!
The lower the nose rocker, the more pearling :P

maybe i'll have to leave the wilds of RI and come up n visit you in NH and borrow your board for a minute.  where do you ride mostly, the wall?

exetersup

Liinter,
Come on up anytime. The Wall is one of the first checks, but I've been going north a few miles more this winter. Conditions are generally a bit smaller, but the wind is generally more favorable in the Jenness Beach area. Plus there's a few breaks all within a few hundred yards that makes it a fun surf/sesh workout.
Let's hook up on some weekend (when I'll have the most time), and I'll let you check out my 9'6. Or maybe I can shoot down to Pt Judith (do they let SUP's in there?)
I've had some memorable summer hurricane swells down there. Get yur shovel ready for tomorrow! Waves on Thursday! Powdah in the mountains!

Here's my car from a few days ago:

Bring it on!

I only surf Pt. J when it's really uncrowded; otherwise, I just move down the coastline a few streets, to the Avenues, which usually has a less aggressive crowd.  But there's lots of places to go around here, with coastline that can handle just about three wind directions; doesn't get better than that.  come join us!
