Starboard K15 Steering Option
« on: January 20, 2010, 07:47:19 PM »
Hi All,

Does anyone know what the situation is with the 2010 model K15 and specifically whether it will have a steering option? The Starboard site makes no mention of it, however this site has what appears to be an official Starboard brochure page...

http://www.surfingsports.com/2009/12...sup-shapes.asp

(Scroll down to the K15 and you will see...)

This next site features the same Starboard originated images but also references the steering option in the editorial preceding...

Send Wardog a message at surfingsports. He'll know for sure.

I know the point had steering but no idea on the K's.

Those descriptions are pulled straight from Starboard literature so I'm sure they must be offering it.

Certainly looks like Starboard literature with the logo and everything, but it's not on the website, the brochure, or anything that the local Australian distributor has received.

Wardog is one of the biggest Starboard retailers...maybe THE biggest. From the style of the writing I'm fairly sure he copied and pasted that straight from some Starboard literature. They are likely using Mark Raaphorst's rudder design.

Is that what they used on the Point?

Yes...the point was designed by Mark primarily. Same steeering as his F series boards.

Here is a list of the race board description and part numbers posted by sup-position on the Starboard Forum. Looks like they exist for sure PT Woody. Just a matter of getting one to Oz now! I tried a K15 for the first time last week and was really impressed, super glide and stability but the thing I wasn't expecting was how well it caught tiny runners. Such an amazing/wild shape in the flesh with the super thick bow and deep hollow for standing, it's far more extreme looking than you realise from the photos.

Finally,we have some part numbers and/or descriptions for the
New Race Boards for 2010.
This will help with preorders although
they have not published the pricing quite yet.

Thanks Jonathan, I notice that all the Starboard paraphernalia quotes the Surf Race thickness at 13.8". That has to be a typo surely. More like 13.8cm I would have thought.
