Best boards to use for rentals
« on: January 16, 2010, 02:39:28 PM »
Hey all,

I plan on doing lessons/rentals and want to get prepared for this before the summer comes along.  Does anyone have any input on good durable boards that are good to use for lessons and rentals? obviously something thats not too expensive and doesnt have to have the performance to be surfed in perfect conditions, more for flat water i was thinking either softops or even Uli boards but something with a better price point.

I'm thinking 11 - 12 ft range is perfect

Also what about paddles? I know Aqua glide and bic make decent paddles but dont want to get rental gear thats going to crap out,

Any suggestions?  maybe from someone that has done this already, would really appreciate the advice!

Thanks, and if anyone ever decides to visit NY and wants to paddle I got you covered!

Starboard makes the Whopper Club with rentals in mind.

You probably want to go with adjustable paddles.

The NSP seems super durable. If you want to rent them out, the 11'6 Naish with a window is probably a clear winner (pun intended)

put thick rail guards on them. Rent the boards out for about 20 hours and they start making money...

Our Rapidfire, though not originally designed for surfing, actually surfs very well. Being plastic its unbreakable, and its really cheap - Retail at $715.

Any idiot can get on this and get out through the surf, and paddle onto waves and enjoy himself...

Here is a little video of it surfing - a river wave - but i the end its all the same thing...

Corrans boards would be sweet and so would the Whoppers.  These are the 2 best choices IMO.  A bit shorter but excellent to surf easier to turn and way better for kids and women.
Of course you can't go wrong with the Werner Paddles Adjustable units like the Carve and Advantage paddles.  They are bomber.   ;D

Those might work Corran, but I'm thinking about purchasing a few that will be versatile enough to do distance trips and maybe even some fun racing events nothing serious, I need something thats gonna give me the biggest bang for my buck

BTW, thats a standing river wave in that clip right?

I think the NSP boards would be good.

Also the new Surftech Soft tops look good.. Here's a vid from Evan.

As far as paddles we use the Aquaglide ADJ aluminum hold up & perform. just remember to clean them with FRESH water Dry (everyday) and lubricate them (regularly)
