Bonga SUP deck pad coming up
« on: December 14, 2007, 12:22:53 PM »
Hey guys, great site!

I reviewed previous posts but could not find the information I need, so I'll ask the question.  I got one of the Bonga Southpoint SUPs and the deck pad is starting to come up in a few places, especially where there is a seam (where different color pieces of the pad come together).

What would you guys recommend to reattach the areas of the pad that are pulling away from the deck?

Thanks

Honolii

I also have the Bonga. No problem yet of lifting deck, but I would use contact cement or 3M spray adhesive (the strong one). Contact cement is great as it is waterproof and gets stronger as it dries over time. Make sure you follow directions, apply on both side and let dry a bit, then press together. I use sticks(Chopsticks work fine for small areas) between the two pieces to keep them apart until I am ready to press them together. Be careful as once pressed together, the pieces are very difficult to reposition.
Hope this helps.

I agree with Honolii.  With the contact cement be careful.  You pretty much get one shot for placement.

I used it with the second pad I put on a board.  Tried to pull it up to reposition, ended up ripping the pad a bit.

The 3M spray works pretty good as well.  I used the 90, I believe there is also one called 77.

Cost is about the same probably.  I got almost 2 pads out of one can of 90, while I had a little left over with a small can of contact cement, which cost 1/2 of what the 3M did.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Is the 3M adhesive the same as used for the Hydroturf stuff?  Previously I had used spray adhesive to secure a seatpad in my surfski and after a while it dried up and the seat let go.  I had to use pretty strong solvent to get it off, and I want to avoid making that mistake again.
