We've got some awesome snow up here right now if anyone is heading up to Vancouver or Whistler. It's non-stop powder.

Hey Princess,
You are right about NW snow!  Mount Baker is going-off!  However I did manage to paddle on New Years day in Bellingham; actually turned my SUP board into an ice breaker and plowed through quarter inch ice on the lake.  Happy New Year!

8 deg this morning was just to much for me. especially with a nasty cold. This weekend is looking toasty warm. High 30's on Saturday and high 40's on Sunday. I won't even need my hood..... 8)

The local mountains in Vancouver--where I ski after work--are really sweet with about 4 metres of snow already. Whistler is lagging behind with about 2 metres but it is slowly catching up.

I can't believe you went through ice on your SUP board! I am taking the winter off paddling as I rent and the place is only open in the summer. My husband has promised me a board for our anniversary this year so I should be able to compare cold weather paddling notes with you soon!

If my cold is gone i'm headed to Nauset tomorrow. Looks like clean small swell conditions. Perfect for me. Too much work to do today. Trying to get some work time in the bank to make way for Maui in Feb. I love the winter paddling but wetsuits are such a pain...can't wait for boardshorts and a rashguard.

Hey Stoneaxe-

I am going out in Gloucester tomorrow am if your interested. If not, have fun at Nauset, and I'll catch up with on          Monday. I am really excited about the potential Plymouth-Provincetown paddle.

Just got back from a 3 week, fun in the snow trip. 14 days of riding in the back country at Berthoud pass or resort riding at Winter Park. It was a well received break from SUP and now I ready to hit it again...

stoked...

I'd love to EC but even Nauset is going to be a stretch. I have a project that I inherited that needs to go out Tuesday and the deeper I dig into it the more I realize what exactly it is I'm digging in....if you know what I mean.

I may just go local myself. Looks pretty flat though....hhmm....maybe I'll go fishing for some winter flounder.

take a look at the article on Kenalu about Randy Barna and his buddies SUPing on the Deschutes River: http://www.kenalu.com/2007/12/31/freezing-yourtoes-off-in-bend/

22 degrees. Nuts. Not to mention if you screw up you get to go through Big eddy Rapids. In high water it's a serious class five.

That's cool Bill.  I would be shocked if noone has jumped in at "surf city" further downstream for some standing waves.  How bout it River?

outfitting for the trip to reno has taken on a serious note as avalanche beacons were procured for each of us. better remember to pack a respirator too. they already have six foot of the fresh at the stabbin' cabin in truckee. it's been comin' down hard since friday and not projected to stop till thursday which just happens to be our eta.

should be packing three snowboards - two current burton models and one winterstick swallowtail i've kept around over 30 yrs for conditions just like this. breakin' out a couple pairs of permagrin 10's, crescentmoon snow shoes to wipe the miles off the faces.

if we come out of this alive i'll have to fill you guys in on how a recent woodworking accident introduced me to the brand new field of biofilm engineering... been layin' low learning all about organic chem and developing bacteriostatic compounds. now just to make sure that the will is up to date... organ donor card/dnr stipulations all in order.

don't ask me how i know this but a bubble level can be handy in the deep stuff 'cause it always helps to know what's up.

Sounds like you are getting serious Shape... ;D

Get yourself one of the new avalanche air bags. Pull the rip and it blows up to give you an air pocket.

Explain the woodworking/biofilm connection.
