Used to be I'd be headed for the mountains. Now I want to see the beach in the snow. I bet I'll get a few odd looks today.

Just came back from 5 days in Vermont.  Had 10" on thursday and 17" yesterday.  Was in the trees all week in knee deep powder.  Awesome early season session.  Now I am back in FL and going to go SUP this afternoon.  Life is good.

Sweet catch...you couldn't have picked a better time for Vt. I don't ski the trees anymore....I'd probably Sonny Bono myself..... ;) Too busy between now and the holidays to get up there but we're planning a mid-week trip up to Killington for early Jan. I usually do a bunch of Sunday afternoon/Monday trips to NH as well. Sunday River is another favorite.

Awesome dawn patrol this am. Waist high sets, 12 degrees and clean with an offshore breeze, and only one other friend out on a longboard. It was kind of funny because the water would freeze on the shaft of my paddle making it kind of slippery, also I put a pretty good ding in my board because it  had some ice on it and it slipped out of my hands when I was putting it on the rack.
I was wearing 5mm Lobster claw mitts, and my hands got pretty cold. Does anybody have any ideas about keeping your hands warm, when it is cold?
Happy Holidays to everyone.

On cold water open water swims without a wetsuit, I have always used vasaline on fingers and toes.

As for the fact there was only one other person in the line up, were you surprised?

Come on over to Stratton.  Been an instructor up there for 13years (ran the school for 2 years).  Great mountain with a lot of snowboarders.  Great trees, terrain parks, halfpipe, etc.  And great deals for weekday riding.  Let me know if you come up.

Hehe...I like both Stratton and Sugarloaf. Mountain choice isn't as much of a concern for me as it use to be. I have to limit myself to wide open slow cruising these days so most any decent mountain will have trails to suit. My days of bumps and trees went out the window about 4 years ago along with a bunch of other stuff. Nice thing about SUP is that it doesn't hurt when I fall... ;D

all my bros in OR are getting the goods 48 inches of new snow in last 48 hrs, and 20 degrees.  We ride snowmobiles now and let me just say I am a little jealous of them, eventhough I was sending it on my kite all day over here in Maui  Good stuff.  STOKED

I was supposed to go to whistler before Christmas,  friend has a condo right at the lift, but stuff got complicated--frickin' Christmas. Bah, humbug.

I've invited Brother Bob (stoneaxe) and his wife to maui to help with the board test. If nothing else just to get him to stop talking about surfing among the icebergs (though it's not much warmer here in Portland this morning, and I'm headed for the channel). I know you Maui folks will enjoy meeting this big lumpy lunatic. He is certifiably nuts about SUP.

Maui--four days and wakeup. Not that I'm counting.

This thread has me thinking about my So Cal dream day of sup/ski on the same day.  This I am looking for the right window for skiing Mount Baldy  http://www.shopbaldy.com/ after a nice fresh power dump and then SUP in the afternoon on the coast.

Woudl be perfect if we could catch it with a Santa Anna / ofshore & a little swell.

MT Baldy is a great resort when the snow is right and has real terrain.

ONe of my long term dreams of ski & surf on the same day.
