Garrett is not right in the head.

These guys look like they are training for the Stand Up Pipe Masters.

PS:  Photo #6 is a strong contender for the Pile Driver wall of fame.

From a shapers perspective, photos are an excellent way to get feed back for future improvements.     A wealth of information can be gathered from pictures.

See that water coming up and catching off the nose?    That rocker/outline was not made for Pipe or Backdoor which makes Garretts feat even more impressive!

Although I'm certainly not surprised that Ikaika and Garrett are making waves at Pipe and Backdoor, are you guys really claiming that they're getting tubed?

If it's been done please feel free to correct me and post video or photo sequences because that would be impressive.

Not sure what you mean by getting tubed?   Getting deep maybe?     Ikaika got some deep pits the other day.   Photo's will arise soon...

Last season Ikaika was already pulling in...

Barrendero,

Your ney saying towards this sport seems to go a bit beyond your concern for your kids.  Billabong titled the video, "Garrett McNamara at Pipe Stand Up Board Tube", not anyone here.  If you feel they got it wrong, I am sure they have a suggestion box.

holy crap ....that third shot is unreal!!!...

ok SUPs can skate around on the face, get barrelled, have fun out there in 1 foot slop when it wouldnt be worth paddling out on a regular board.

..when are we gonna see some AIRS... ;D ;D ;D...blane ...what say you and your boys?

Admin, on the one hand SUP appears concerned about how the sport is perceived by the greater surf community and on the other, your Etiquette and Surfer's Perspective sections (with only 7 and 33 total posts respectively) are way towards the bottom of the forums. Personally, I find that very telling and personal experience confirms that those two subjects are at the bottom of the list of most SUPers I've encountered in the water. Incidentally, you once stated that my personal experience was false so I don't expect to convince you, but while you give your tacit approval to claims of barrels and humbled rippers, I'll keep telling it like it is and the truth is that what those guys are doing isn't that much more impressive than what Sammy Lee and "Black Butch" et al were doing on vastly inferior equipment almost half a century ago.

Wake me up when they're taking off as deep as Jaime O. and coming out. Until then carry on with the lip service to etiquette and vainglorious reach around that results from the lack of objectivity here.

Blane,  no disrespect to you (or anyone else for that matter). your humility, sincerity and sense of humor appear to be the real deal.

El B.

Not to get off subject but do we brand everyone in the same boat because of a few peoples negative actions? I would think that we are smarter than that. El Barren I think you clearly are against SUP no matter what so why even be on this site? I would think you would want to hang out somewhere else or is it your mission to insert your negative comments because it is your social responsibility to educate the SUP people.

Aloha

Hola Barrendero,

Although easy to criticize format, we are one of the few surf-sport sites that has any area for etiquette, and we have opened up two, which we are proud of.  There are only so many ways to say "be polite" and I would say that each contributor here has read all of them.  Hopefully, our users are the most polite riders in water.

This thread, however, was about a group of people who are stoked on a sport, sharing their stoke over the accomplishments of some incredible rides by by some incredible riders.  Nothing is gained by minimizing that.

El B, Why be so concerned with what other people ride and enjoy? I don't think you really have to worry about hordes of SUP'ers converging on pipe. On the other hand you probably don't get to surf there either. Here's a hint for the naysayers, focus on yourself and what makes you happy and quit worrying what others are doing.
