High-sterical
« on: November 23, 2007, 05:06:09 PM »
We have attracted ourselves a group of High-sterical 15 year olds, who have an enviable working knowledge of the emoticon, if not a complete understanding that the net is a two way ticket, right back to the front door.  Careful boys, we might have to come to your houses and tell your mom's whatsup  :) (apologies for the plain ol' smiley).  This note will self destruct as soon as it gets boring...

Nesurf is a site which is overun with these kids and most of them can barely stand up on a regular fun/longboard. You'll be able to discern them from regualar humans easily. ;) Their whole gig is to FSU.

After a conversation the other day about this subject, I thought I'd list a few people who are known surfers here in Hawaii and other places who stand up paddle...

Feel free to add the people I miss....

Gerry Lopez, Dave Kalama, Laird Hamilton, Titus Kinimaka, Bonga Perkins, Rob Machado, Luke Egan, Tom Carrol, Occy, Kelly Slater, The Malloy Brothers, Mel Puu, Brian Keaulana, Richie Lovett, Kai Salas, Noah Shimabukuro, Jamie Sterling, Kala Alexander, Brock Little, Dave Yester, Kekoa Uemura, Leleo Kinimaka, Garrett McNamara, Kealii Mamala, Makua Rothman, Ikaika Kalama, Dave Parmenter, Chris Mauro, Scott Bass, Keone Downing, Dino Miranda, Luke Steadman, Russ Keaulana, Duane DeSoto, Archie Kalepa, Kapono Nahina, Keoki Saguibo, Darrick Doerner, Guy Pere, Keanu Asing, etc...

I know there are plenty more I'm forgetting...    Now the whole reason we were talking about this is the fact that its here to stay and people who frown upon it have no clue how much fun it is or they were the victim of a wave hog SUP surfer.    For the above mentioned people to do it, with a lot of them doing it as much if not more than their regular surfing, its pretty clear SU paddling and surfing is going to be something you will be seeing a lot of.

Internet idiots are all over the place covering all subjects.    I like the fact that I don't have to moderate any forums because I'd get into trouble!

There is always some kind of idiot in every crowd, and these are usually the ones who are concerned with what everyone else is riding instead of focusing on themselves. My experience tells me these are the same people who cut everyone off in traffic while talking on their cell phones. They are also the ones who go on your wave when you are deeper and call them off. I am standup surfing to get away from these jokers.

I just think it is way funny that we are fielding planned attacks from a group of "surfers" in Rhode Island and the likes.  I mean, are there any Stand Up paddlers even in RI to have issue with?  Also, some of these cats have 5,000 individual posts on these forums, mostly insults (homophobic anybody?).  Holy shite!  My advice: move to waves.  Life is plenty short for cooped up, wasted anger.

Blame it all on StoneAxe, he is close enough to RI.

I was in RI this summer and there are only a few places that actually catch swell with regularity.  Beautiful coast line and would be perfect for SUP.  In fact, I think that whole long island sound area is going to blow up with SUP next summer, so the spammers should get used to it.

Hehe Michael...I haven't even hit RI yet. It's all Linter's fault.

I haven't heard any of this on the Cape. Lots of interest in my board and SUP in general. Of course I don't think any of these pre-pubescent mental masturbators would say anything to my face. I tend to scare small children.... ;D.

RI has some nice breaks and a small but very loyal surf crowd. The lack of swell size does make it perfect for SUP. I agree, next summer will be an explosion of SUP on the east coast.

I'm surprised by the number of places that I see nice breaks where there is no one out there. The Chatham bars are empty....tough to get to but you have 2 miles of sand bars that create breaks from any swell direction but west....not a surfer in sight. Why would I want to bother with a lineup?

I was out today on glassy two foot swells at Brant Rock in Marshfield....not another soul on the water. Of course it was 30 deg and breezy.... Heading down there again tomorrow. Perfect SUP spot but no surfer's would bother.

The really sad thing is that these postings probably aren't from 15 year olds, they are probably adults! How do they even find this site? Exactly how much spare time do you need to start researching topics on the internet that you are NOT interested in? And some surfers have some serious homophobia issues...is really necessary to call everyone a homo or a fag?

You may be right.  Love to hear how that conversation goes, "no honey, I only scour the web for gay porn to post on Standupzone...really...don't call your mom..."
