Looks like a tidal bore to me- pushing up river. Super cool.

I'm still thinking boat wake. No swell in front of them at all, and corduroy behind. I'm going to check out of the Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket ferry wakes on a glassy day this winter. Very liitle other boat traffic on an early morning ferry could generate something like that. LONG ride.

Looks like a boat wake to me too. I've been doing a lot of them lately. A few days ago I was paddling on the Willamette river and a coast guard RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) came up to ask me what the heck I was doing. They gave me a wake ride half way back to my starting point--about a mile. Sounds ideal, but you really can't do much in the wake, as soon as you turn you drop out.

I have been trying to get a tugboat wake, but haven't found any that aren't pushing barges. Guys here say a tug wake is the best--big and thick, the boat only goes about six knots, and you can play in it. Some of the locals were talking about hiring one.

Very cool.....hhmmm...I wonder what some of the tankers and cargo ships coming out of the Cape Cod canal would put up? A glassy day on the Cape Cod bay side would be perfect. Once they exit the canal they push their speed up.

Yea actually it does look like a boat wake, but I have seen standing waves in the river that looked similar especially sand waves.

Stoneaxe I take it your in P-Town ME not P-Town OR?

If P-Town OR lets get a crew together I have a buddy with a huge boat (confirmed huge wake that I saw on video of a bunch of skimmers ripping it up) that he would bring it out if we had a small crew to surf the wake and pitch in for gas.  He wont do it for just me especailly when gas is so damn expensive.

I'm actually in Massachusetts. Near Plymouth.

LOL...too bad the price of fuel has gotten so bad. Big boat owners could have a cash stream on down days.

What makes it work for SUP is I can have some fun paddling around, maybe fishing for stripers at the mouth of the canal. I see a tanker exiting and I paddle in and catch a mile ride..... ;D. Nice workout back to the beach and wait for another. Hehe...could even troll for stripers on the ride out.

Hehe....be careful you don't lose your bait.... ;)

PonoBill has been paddling the Willamete lately. Look for an old geezer with white hair and a drysuit on a 12'6 Starboard.
