New Starboard boards
« on: November 17, 2007, 05:15:36 PM »
I've posted the current board builders that are going to be participating in the upcoming test in Maui, Feb 15th, I expect a few more to commit, but we've got quite a lineup. At the same time that I got an enthusiastic reply from Starboard they also sent me photos of their new boards. They are obviously committing to SUP--the new lineup is six designs and a lot of options.  They look pretty interesting, especially the fish style 9.0 and 9'8" boards though I doubt any of them are floaty enough for me. I'd like to get a board that would turn quicker. Here's the link: http://www.ponohouse.com/ponoblog/?p=304

They are also doing paddles in Carbon Fibre and Alloy, and one of the alloy paddles is adjustable for length

Just yesterday I saw one of those fish resting on the rail at Lauiniupoko. Not sure who owns it, but a bunch of starboard-sponsored kids was around it (Connor, Zane, etc...).
I'll ask Keith Baxter next time I see him...

The 9'0" from 2009 is the Stinger.
It has a 5 fin configuration.
The Stinger really loosens up the board.
Pretty significant concave in the nose.
The concave helps to force entry into rolly waves
by pressing down the nose with your feet.
I rode it in the Quad and also with 5 fins (center being a hatchet).
Zippy in quad, nice roller coaster rides, and plenty floaty for me at 180#.
Stiff in 5 fin.
Will try it in 2-1, but I'm pretty sure it will be pretty close to the 9'0" Extremist,
which is a 2-1. With the right fins the Extremist can drive and pivot really well with control.

Yup. I still think of you waling into that palm tree in the dark every time I go to Launiopoko. It was also the first time I learned that Rand can eat his weight in pig. the lad can eat.
