2022 Naish Bullet
« on: April 12, 2023, 02:56:04 AM »
I’m looking for a light wind board that is also suitable for fitting a Foildrive so needs to be about 5-10 lts above my 78kg weight. Thought the Bullet might fit the requirements at 5’1x25 and 85 lts.

Has anyone had any experience with this board? Can’t find any reviews at all.

Have you considered the Kalama DW boards? https://kalamaperformance.com/product/e3-wing-prone-downwind/

Also Axis Hybrid.  https://axisfoils.com/collections/hybrid-downwind-foilboards

They would work way better for light wind and foil drive than the Bullet.

The Naish Bullet would be awesome and a perfect choice..

I'd get one in a heartbeat but I'm 100 kg it's just not enough volume for me..

Thanks DJ, yes it has a bit of volume in the tail to support the battery and about 10lts more than the current board I’m using to wing with Foildrive. I’ve found the hardest part is balancing on the sub my body weight board in the ultra light wind, just need a few more litres.

Neither the downwind Kalama or the Axis boards are currently available in Australia

I could be wrong but the unique rocker on the Bullet doesn't look conducive to light wind lift-offs. The website only focuses on racing and speed with no mention of light wind winging.

A downwind board might not even need the help of the Foildrive.

I would agree with this.  The rocker is intended to make high speed touchdowns forgiving, but that isn't a trait that would lend itself to efficiency when getting onto foil.

Appletree has a new board coming out that sounds like its tailor made for this application.  Basically a mini DW board.  I anticipate that these longer, narrower boards with efficient hulls will be a growing segment of the market....

I understand that thoughts are the rocker isn’t suitable, I was hoping someone who had actually ridden one might have an actual review.

My biggest wing is a 5mtr and I use it on a 900sqcm foil wing. The foil drive is perfect for this setup in light winds, the foil is slippery enough to build speed and apparent wind in the lightest conditions, larger wings with higher drag slow once the prop leaves the water and you slow down and come off the foil. The Foildrive gets you onto the foil, the apparent wind takes over after that, no chance of pumping onto the foil in 7 knots of wind.

Apple tree boards aren’t available here either.

I had two session of the Naish Bullet 85L. One in awesome 30 plus knots. Very happy with the board! The board handles going upwind and getting hit by chop so well. I have an Armstrong 88L and the Naish is lighter on front, I think allowing for more control of the foil. with gear I am 93 Kg I sink both boards with no wind but the Naish I sink more with wind. Have to start differently. The Naish is less stable, more difficult to start, but more enjoyable when on the foil.

to mount a foil drive you would need a Long cable to mount on the front board of the Bullet, I don't think you could mount on the back. The foil track and where you back foot is  too close to the back of the board. you would sink the foil drive and then the controller wouldn't connect.

The Armstrong 88L, I think this would be a much better board to mount the foil drive at the back due to it's shape.
