Dave Daum Build Series - Foilboard Construction A to Z - Q & A
« on: November 18, 2022, 12:11:54 AM »
Hi Guys, As some of you know, I had called Dave Daum at Kings Paddlesports to make some new Foiling Carbon dream boards (Swim Missiles thread) come to life.  That has been a super enjoyable and informative process for me, so I asked Dave if he would consider doing a Master Builder presentation here on the Zone, and he has agreed to do that.

Dave is going to chronicle the build of our boards as an example, but the series will not be limited to these boards.  He is wide open to discussing other build types and construction techniques, as well as engaging your comments and questions.  We will start this as a thread here but we can build it out and add some structure as needed.

Thanks Dave and thanks to all who will tune in and participate!

Yeah, I have no interest in that :o.

Very cool, I can't wait. That's super nice of Dave, but he's a great guy as well as a great board builder and engineer.

As I'm sure most here are aware, I've been using Dave's talents for quite a few years now. He's a wizard on the 3d software, and always manages to interpret my non-technical nomenclature into exactly what I have so perfectly pictured in my head. Here's our latest collaboration of a sup DW foil board....

Here a two more builds that Dave has underway which we can consider for this thread.  One is a 19 inch wide SUP downwinder and the other is a prone foil drive downwinder.  Shown is the UHMW Polyethylene mold used to vac bag the foil drive tray.

This is awesome for a pro to take his time and share his knowledge. Thank you.
Tell him to start employing more people. I bet a load of people take 1 look at that efoil down wind board and just go I have to have one.

Oooh, pretty! I like that. I already decided I need to redo the battery box on my hollow Faux Drive board. This thread is going to cost me a lot of time and effort. Enough to consider coming back from Maui early so I can get rolling, though there are quite a few things I can do here with the electronics.

I'd get Dave added to the Faux Drive What's app group but it's a full-time job reading all the posts. Some intensely creative folks there. I currently have 323 unread posts, and I could pick up at the end of those. Unfortunately, there are real jewels on pretty much every page of posts.

Hi guys,

Here is a new Wingsurf Build from the start (OK, not the conversations and design, which is really cool - we will get to that!)

Dave, If you can share it, I would like to know how you cut the slot from the bottom to deck for the plywood reinforcement?
I thought about using a circular saw with fine blade but I don't think it will work since it won't cut deep enough. Or maybe a right angle jig with hotwire?
