Haha ya miss my rum Marta,  but I need the antibiotics to clear up my sinus infection.  Feeling much better every day so it’s working.  Have a fun trip!

Each has his very own medical condition ...but i never go into the water without earplugs (vented).I have friends with chronic surfers ear and that is a real bummer, surgery did not fix it for them.
I also got a nasty ear infection in Costa Rica ,before i wore plugs, and it is really miserable pain.
Cold and the crap in the watervis not healthy for long periods of time.
Rinsing with alcohol will help a lot with dissolving impacted wax.
But like i said, every case is different.

Don, bummer about vertigo. I am sorry and hope it resolves quickly. On a side note.....I was thinking about you just the other day. I am headed to Marsh Harbor on Thursday to deliver a boat back to Maine. I have been to the Exumas but never the Abacos Islands. I am arriving a few days early. Is there anything I should check out? Somewhere cool to stay. You are the best and only expert I know on the Bahamas and Caribbean.

I realize this isnt the topic of the thread, and I hope the OP feels better quickly - but to your question I was winging for a week on Elbow (Abacos) last fall. Had a handful of good sessions and can give some intel if needed.  Seemed like things were still opening back up after the hurricane, but its definitely on the up and up.  Its an amazing little island and does get some ok waves (although I didn't get any clean conditions).  There are some very cool islands nearby to explore as well.

StellaB, please make that a new thread. Not so we don't mess this one up, but because search is easier and people will have more and clean info. Caribe will 100% pipe up I'm sure.

Thanks very much Toolate...I did use each method early on but both made me even more dizzy and I threw up.  I have improved a lot since then, and I am doing both maneuvers without getting dizzy or sick.  Thanks for posting.

Late to the conversation. Glad to hear it's just a sinus infection. Vertigo was one of the early signs of my tumor.

Hey Stoney, when I went to the dr, they gave me CAt scan for just that reason. They said a lot of people experiencing vertigo may have had a stroke or about to have one.  Also they do look for tumors. Fortunately neither was the case and I got ofer it within a couple of weeks.  I am convinced it was due to water in my ears and sinuses.

Glad it worked out for you.  I had a really servere case with attacks where I could not stand up and would throw up.  These slowly diminished over about four months.  After initial tests I was diagnosed as having BPPV and told  nothing to worry about.  All of the head twisting maneuvers didn't help at all.  Finally got to see an ENT and his conclusion it was a viral infection of the nerve bundle in the inner ear.  I slowly went deaf in that ear and my balance although has recovered is not as good as before.  So my advice for people experiencing severe attacks is get to an ENT and get steroids and anti-virals if the doctor thinks there is any issue that its vestibular neuritis.

Seadart, great recommendation.  Sorry about your hearing loss, but glad you got to the root of the problem.   While i didn’t go to an ENT specialist, I should have because I suspected it was sinus infection, water in ears related.

It's strange. The only thing that worked to combat my vertigo was SUP. The whole reason I ever found it was because I came on here to get info to build a paddle for my brother.
