Yikes! That's some hectic damage and I've been concerned about that happening somehow with the lack of rail saver. 

Similar thing happened to me with my reel leash (looks like the same webbing attachment), except it wasn't the tail of my board, but rather my inner thigh, that took the brunt.  I had a high speed breach going down a 5' wave with the 4' webbing section between my legs so it was a rug burn effect that put a hole in my 5/4 wetsuit at a point very close to a few items very near and dear to me.    Luckily miss, plus Patagonia fixed the hole for me when I sent it in for warranty repairs for seam failures.
