Yeah, spill what you know.

Hdip, you could actually do this test with a couple of phone calls.

Pretty sure @frenchfoiler has already done this. Maybe on sea breeze though.

HAH. It breaks down that the 1440 is larger and slower and better for bay runs, no ground swell days.

The ART1099 is not actually a big wing. It just has a wide wingspan. It's better for larger ground swell days and open ocean runs where you need more speed.

I don't think they're super comparable. (I've ridden neither, I just consume a lot of content)

Sorry I haven't been on the forum lately.

I don't really surf those foils, only sup dw, those are too big for me for wave.

Turning is better with the 1440, lets say more surfy feeling. But the 1099 paired with ultra short fus (or maybe the new fus) and 325 it turns actually good but not as tight.

Glide : I really like the art 1099 glide, there is something special about this wing. More front foot pressure with Axis than Takuma. Also axis way more stiffer, more control especially for 80kg + guys.
1440 better glide on really weak swell.

Speed : 1099 faster

Both good foil, I usually use the 1440 when it is super light with small bumps but if it gets average to good then 1099.

I concur with Frenchfoiler. I have Sup surfed and winged the 1440 extensively and have tried the 1099 once on a wing.

1440 feels a little more intuitive to pump, as in agile, the 1099 feels stiff as and just doesn't sink, the glide is quite is quite remarkable. The 1099 is not at it's happiest turning but it comes around ok and is predictable. The 1440 actually turns quite well especially at very slow speeds so it's my go to foil in the smallest of waves.

I'd imagine the 1099 must be super fun downwind as the glide and carry is so good, I've done heaps of downwinds on the 1440 and it is a machine, it picks up energy everywhere and also has amazing glide.

Overall I'd probably go with the 1440 as it's more versatile but if you are looking for a downwind only foil the the 1099 is probably one of the best foils for us bigger riders 85kg up.

Just to add to the versatility aspect of the 1440, at 195lbs I've been using it for marginal winds windwinging and it works pretty good.  What's nice to me is that it seems to work best more forward in the box and with a bit of back foot pressure, so it doesn't over-foil quickly like some other downwind designs do.  I'd take the 1210 or 1095 any day over it for winging in stronger winds and close spaced wind swell as both are faster and turn better, but when I do jump on it, it feels like a big 1095 and behaves well!

I agree with this.  The 1440 is a large wingspan, but manages to turn much much better than I would expect.  Its also got some decent speed range, excellent glide and and pumps very easily.  I prefer the 1095 for winging most days and feel that it has more versatility (1440 is too big to jump and doesn't breach as well as the 1095), but the 1440 is still a very fun wing for the light days or for weak windswell downwinding.  I ride the 1095 and 1440 in the identical position on my boards (forward but not slammed).

There are some guys (Mike Pedigo) who surf the 1440 a LOT harder than you would expect for a foil that size.
