Armstrong HA525 anyone?
« on: May 10, 2022, 09:22:08 AM »
After an epic session on the HA725, I put in an order for the HA525.

Anyone have any comparisons to share between the two?

Iím hoping to gain a MPH or two for when Iím out drag racing with buddies.

The slipperiness and intuitive nature of the 725 has me craving more of that feeling. I was able to do my best turns to date on the 725 with 60 fuse, 195 tail with .5 shim. Carving backside on little knee high ripples in 30mph with 3m -> Going to 12:00 into the wind all the way to 6:00 and back to 12:00 on repeat in the tightest radius, all while going up and down like pow turns. Iíve never had a bigger grin winging I donít think. Iím hoping the 525 will do that for me on more substantial sized waves/swell. As a lightweight, it is a truly awesome experience to have full control of the foil, rather than trying to manage it.
Iím a 5í9Ē 65kg rider:

   4í5Ē 34L Armstrong FG Wing/Surf
   4'11" 60L Armstrong Wing/Sup

Foils: Armstrong HS625, HS850, HA725, HA925, HS1050, HA1125, HS1250, HA1325
Wings: BRM 2M-6M

I'd love to know how you like it. I think there must be a bottom end somewhere w/r/t foil size and rider weight. When I was racing 100lb groms in SF they were all on 800+ foils and I was shocked they weren't on < 500cm foils. Not sure if that's for a reason or they don't have the proper gear.

My 600cm 10AR wing is getting more and more use as I learn to pump it and am also addicted to the speed and insane glide. It was just a race wing but it's so fun to ride and NON-ventilation-happy that I really enjoy free riding it. It took some getting used to, that's for sure, but each time I ride it it feels more and more normal and predictable.

What size mast are you riding?

Good insights!

Iím on an 85cm mast predominately, but keen to use the 100 with these smaller wings.

What type of race wing do you have?

I rode the MA Hs850 right before the HA725 last session and the drop in arm fatigue was very noticeable. Similar lift and agility between the two.  (Mostly flat water session).

You are right about familiarity increasing each session on smaller foils. This was my 3rd or 4th session (first on a Ďsinkerí) and it really seemed to click.
