Slightly off topic but see you have surfed an Element but also the 8,5 Destroyer. How does the Destroyer compare with the Element in terms of stability and does it really need a bit of push in the waves due to its small length?
They're two different beasts. The Element is 9'8 and the Destroyer is 8'5. The Element is stable is a barge for me personally but have put first-timers on it and they can barely stay on their knees. The Destroyer took some time to get comfortable with, but I was stepping down from the 9'8 Element so I was expecting a challenge. It started as my "only on clean days" board but I can now take it out in all conditions. The Destroyer has a little bit of glide, but nothing like a 9'+ board so I've learned to catch waves pretty late. Not sure if that answers your questions, but feel free to reach out via pm and I can blab on further.

Thanks….it pretty much answers what I thought…..I have an 8ft 8 surf sup which is ace on the waves but sooooo slow to paddle and like you have to leave it late to get onto a wave. I’ve got so used to surfing longer boards now that I doubt I want to go back to short sups. Just splashed out on a 10 ft longboard!

@BigZ is the handle on the Kalama as deep as the handle on the JL Destroyer? I’m really hoping so. Jimmy uses the best handle in the game - you can fit your whole hand in there. If this is one of those finger tip handles I’m gonna be bummed.

No. The handle is pretty shallow. At least on mine.

I'm interested in this board because of the relatively low 126L volume (for a 9'2).

How's the real life stability?

My lowest volume board to date was a 122L Starboard Longboard SUP. Which was totally fine for hanging out on, but it was 10' x 29". It did make me look kinda nooby sometimes, so not great for the ego, but I never fell off (non-wave time).

I'm curious if this Kalama's volume/shape combo is comfortable or does it require you to pay attention?    btw I'm 190lb-ish

This board is super stable. I am 240.

I took 4 boards out today in 1-2x overhead conditions:

Starboard Spice
NSP Super X
Infinity Blurr V2
Kalama

I noted by the end that I greatly prefer the quad setup on my kalama over the thruster on any of those other boards. I find the control given on big waves with those quads are crucial to my enjoyment on larger less than perfect waves.

I ride these large DHD fins:

Mine only has standard fcs 2 boxes so I’ve never considered riding it as a single.
