I’m 6’2 but I think stance width also is personal preference more than height based.  I keep hearing numbers like 23-25” except for the best foilers seem to like even more narrow.

If you want foot straps, I’d spring for at least 3-hole inserts and maybe 5-hole because you really can’t predict what’s going to be best until you ride it.

I do like your thinking about center of lift of the foil, but don’t forget that the pitch center is forward of the center of lift due to the tail downforce.  So your center of mass could be quite a ways ahead of the center of lift of the front foil wing.  That you can tune with the tail angle via shims.

Hey All...

Here's the design for my WingSUP board.  https://imgur.com/a/axFd0wO

I'll post pics of the finished board in about a month.

Yes, it's preference over size. Also as was said, as you progress it seems people often reduce their stance.

This is a moving target. In good news, you're building a big board. It's more forgiving as long as you don't completely blow it.

Remember, looking at pics of boards. Tracks are about 10.5" long mostly.

Since you are making your own board i would build it strapless and ride it that way for a few sessions. When you tune your mast and feet position you can place single screw strap inserts right where you need them, save weight and guesswork.

Got the board shaped this weekend with Ry Harris at Shred MFG.

I'm really happy with the rounded pin tail. I'm keen to see if this works similarly to a pintail, but with better planing performance.

Next step is a full carbon vac-lam with twill carbon fiber and 15" boxes. You can see the box placement marked...

It's 1.5lb foam. My shaper refuses to use 1lb for foilboards due too many prior box failures. I think he's a bit conservative when there's a dual wood stringer...

What do you all think about that?

Ryan's a good dude. 1.5lb is what I use too. I can't see the weight being an issue.

I'm not having another box reinforcement discussion. Hahahahaaaaa

Glass it! Let's hear the ride report.  I'm 99% sure my latest is too small lol.

Ryan killed it on a sup foil board for me.  The boxes are pretty darn bomber and the board is well constructed and light.  He used 1.5lb and all carbon.  The only problem was that it took six months to get it done.

I refuse to use 1 lb also. Was asking only because I was comparing quality of his foam to our EPS factory here in Florida. Our EPS factory is producing better quality based on that photo. The EPS factory in North Carolina produces the worst quality foam.

I'm not sure who supplied this particular blank.  It seemed pretty good quality while shaping it.  But I didn't spend a lot of time smoothing out the final shape, because it's going to have dark carbon covering everything.

Indeed... Ryan is an amazing shaper, but there's always some risk with custom shapers.

Although in Ryan's case, he transferred ownership of the board factory to his partner, Marcello.  Who is an outstanding production board builder.

Ryan still shapes out of the factory, but isn't responsible for glassing. Which means quality has gone up while wait-times have gone way down.  I'm stoked for him, since volume production glassing is not his strength.

If anyone wants to try a custom version of my board, then Ryan could make it.

i think they were using Millenium foam last I checked, and its closer to 1.7lb not 1.5.   Seemed pretty good to work with to me.   But that could have changed
