Foil drive
« on: February 27, 2022, 10:12:31 PM »
How about this as a foil drive. There are lots of different set ups. The good thing is the battery is in the housing so all the weight is low and no wires. They say it has a cut off. I guess when it comes out of the water it stops. So perfect. Would the smaller 500w motor be enough. This you can run with 1 battery. The bigger 1000w motor looks like it needs 2 batteries.
Looks like making something to clamp it too the foil that atattches to the front of the housing would be pretty straight forward.

The concept looks great, and i like the enclosed propeller design and price .
The Overwater kit is 1860eur.The entry level is 1188eur but has no remote.
This is the smalles battery model,1hr runtime at 2.4kg.
You could attach this in many ways, maybe make it easily removable and carry it as backup when you get better.

Will this be powerful enough to go from DW schlogger to DW foiler?.
They say they got about 5kph on an inflatable SUP.

On the bad side there are a few very unhappy customers on Trustpilot, to be fair the complains seem more related to the Covid19 production&shipping chaos than to the actual product.

Company is Austrian,looks legit.
Good find Tarquin.

Quite an old review. Dosn't say which motor. He says the batteries are good for 15 minutes. The new ones say 1 hour. Sounds like he bought one of the first models. Maybe things have developed.
 Expensive experiment.
