Knee pads
« on: January 21, 2022, 02:09:20 PM »
This should get some attention. Any of you old farts ever bruise your knee? I think I got up on it weird maybe even on my leash. It is not painful unit I try and get up. I am looking for a knee pad to only use if this happens again. almost ruined trip. Glad it was at the end. Getting better now.
I see some products out there from Gill, Ion and burton, but figured I would ask the crew?

I'm not seeing any knee pads. The links just take me to coupon sites.

Quite a few people use knee pads to start, I see them at the Harbor here in Maui almost every day. They look bulky. All you need is a little padding. A cheap knee brace works or if you have an old wetsuit you can recycle a chunk of leg

My experience mirrored Pono Bill's comments above -- I used Gil kneepads when learning to get up, and they worked OK but were difficult to keep centered over my knees.  Once my incompetence level dropped, they have not been needed.

I've found that any inexpensive knee brace with a patellar support usually consists of a donut of padding around the kneecap.  These are much lighter than traditional kneepads, volleyball pads, etc.  They usually have some velco straps to keep the brace in place and provide compression and support in addition to protection.  They drain water well due to the hole in the donut and should provide more than enough protection for most activity.

I just use the cheap ones from lowes. They are called "over/unders" cost $10. Neoprene with closed cell foam on the knees..

P.S. I think the web site is redirecting all links to spam sites, so I won't post a link.
