Omicron is here
« on: January 12, 2022, 04:50:43 PM »
In California, we are seeing a spike of cases since New Years.  I would like to share my opinion in the chance that it may help prevent you and your loved ones from getting this virus.

I have been an essential worker since covid started and always felt safe wearing a mask.  That is no longer the case with omicron.

What we are seeing is omicron spread like the flu, regardless of mask compliance, vaccinations/ boosters.  The eye opening trend i am seeing first hand is:
1) Omicron is not prevented with regular masks.
2) Omicron is not prevented by vaccination.
3) Omicron is not prevented by the booster.

I am of the opinion that the best prevention of omicron is wearing a n95 or kn95 mask.  If you don't have access to a n95/kn95 mask, I would encourage you to double mask.  Help prevent another lockdown by preventing the spread of omicron.

Did you go anywhere yesterday and spend >5 min around someone who may have been exposed in the last 48-72h?  In 48 h, you may start showing symptoms.  In 72 h, you will have a fever.  Early symptoms are body aches, feeling tired, runny nose.  The 3 day incubation comes with a fever.  The days to follow are a sore throat which gradually gets worse but may start to show relief 6 days after the initial fever.

Friends don't let friends get omicron.

one thing that seems to be the case is that people who have had covid and also been vaccinated are not getting covid again. I have no data to support this other than my observations and this is my and my family's situation. Time will tell. Thanks for your concern. We need more people worried than there currently are.

One of my daughters is the lead respiratory therapist in a hospital where she is exposed to Covid frequently. She's been vaccinated and boosted, wears a mask (required at work), and is currently recovering from Covid. Since the hospital needs her desperately she's been given monoclonal antibodies and was on the mend, when she started showing symptoms again. It could well be a secondary infection--bacteria taking advantage of inflamed tissue.

Another respiratory therapist that works for her has had COVID twice.

This is a confusing situation, but the only advice I'm considering is to limit your exposure as best you can, by whatever means you can. The stats show major advantages in being vaccinated and boosted, but it's no longer proof against being infected, you simply are much less likely to need hospital care, and even less likely to die.

Anyone with a reasonably long memory remembers that this has been the objective of all the public health efforts since all this crap began. The trend for cases in the most heavily affected areas seems to be leveling. We will see more of this--it's inevitable that the giant worldwide "experiment" we are running--having vaccinated populations interspersed with unvaccinated--will yield mutations that can get past the vaccine immunity.

Yes and it feels like common cold that I had bunch of times before. Its your unique chance to get a natural vaccine from Mother Nature. Enjoy your life - take your mask off and breathe.

Great advice, unless it isn't. 1536 deaths yesterday from Covid. If you're young and lucky then sure, but if you give it to your elderly parents or immune-compromised friends and they die, as happened to an acquaintance of mine, you might not feel quite so giddy.

I dont wish death upon anyone but that 1536 is likely very untrue. Most of those death were not from Covid but rather with Covid. Even per CDC only 5% of the overall deaths are directly from covid. The other 75% will have at least 4 other comorbiditities so it is a little misleading to present info like that. I am sure we are going to hear lot more clarifications as the time goes by. The science should be looking at the most vulnerable population and trying to save those rather than doing silly shit.

Same here in France/Europe. Omicron numbers have gone ballistic since Christmas.
As Sflinux said dosn't look like the vaccines are very effective against catching it, hopefully they are stopping people getting really sick. Who knows?
Plenty of people here getting it that have had 3 shots or Covid already. One of my wife's friend has had 3 shots and now has COVID for the second time! Healthy guy with no health problems.
The thing that worries experts here is that with this many people getting it and it spreading so quickly another variant is going to pop up somewhere. Thats why it needs to be stopped.
And yes they have pretty much said the normal masks are useless against it here. A n95 mask is a lot more effective.
One thing I cant find any info on. If the vaccines are not effective against it how accurate are the tests?

Apparently, you do. It's been clear from the beginning that most deaths are of people with comorbidities, but that means high blood pressure, overweight, etc. on up to the more obvious serious illness. That doesn't simply mean people who were circling the drain. How do you look after the vulnerable population when people who are not vulnerable are comfortable spreading the disease? It's not likely to be you choking your life out in a hospital so it doesn't matter. That is really what telling yourself "it's just people with comorbidities" means.

Hospitalizations are at an all-time high, and hospital staff is getting infected, which means they can't work. What fun. If you get sick or injured you can expect the standard of care to be very different from what you would like. But yeah, take your mask off, join the party.

Weve been enjoying this guys daily updates on the data.

Yeah, I like him too. He's pretty objective on most things Covid. I really like his work with the vaccine injured. He did great work pointing out the probably problem of injections hitting veins. And the simple solution of aspirateing injections. (Still not addressed by governments)   He's focus on treatment options is very good also.
The fact he uses international data gives him good clarity. I wish more would listen to him.

My only criticism is he's still a little too pro vax,  and stays away from some of the negative efficacy issues of our vaccines.

A smaller channel of Dr Been is another good one still very pro vaxx but has a good way of simplifying subjects and tends to covers more treatment options and data than most.

Here is an interesting chart.  We are not just talking about people who "would have died anyways".

Right On! My wife (a retired nurse) has been complaining about that exact issue when she got her shots. Shes like WTF, is nobody being taught how to give proper shots anymore, or is everyone giving these shots, just some bum off the streets, and not nurses.

I wonder why you view this is a problem?  Are you looking for "experts" who will confirm your opinion or are you listening to experts in order to form an opinion?

Dr. Campbell recently talked about a study from Denmark where the techs are required to aspirate the syringe to insure they are not on a vein.  In a comparison with one of the neighboring Scandinavian countries, this little precaution had significant benefits in reducing heart issues.

I also liked the Dr's interview with Kyle Warner (Kyle and April) pro-mountain biker.  He unfortunately developed some major side effects.  He commented that he had a metallic taste in his mouth at the time of the injection.  The inference is that the injection hit a vein as opposed to the desired muscle tissue.
Hoping for a very positive outcome for him.
