Funny how things come full circleÖ

The new Horue set up is a bi wing config. The other picture posted is a bi wing set up tried 4 years ago. Not close with fit and finish and maybe the Horue design will be the cats knees.

I've seen some beautiful bi-wing designs but most of them fail to take advantage of what I would guess is the biggest benefit of bi-wings: you can have one wing for turning and one for lift/glide. Looks like this Horue wing might do that to some degree.

Another big advantage is graceful and mostly automatic recovery from overfoiling.

At what cost?  The increased drag may not be overcome at any expense.  Foils have become so minimalistic and the reduced drag is definitely a bonus.  Things seem to work just fine with the mono-wing system I have trouble seeing the benefit of a bi-wing system.  I have been wrong before!

Iíve sometimes wondered about something similar: a clamp-on-the-mast foil closer to the board, to help get up with a small main foil, otherwise itís out of the water. Faster, more efficient, harder to over foil, less abrupt/consequential touch downs.

Exactly. You'd probably need at least 30cm between the wings, which means a special mast and a completely different design for the fuselage. this Horue thing isn't it.

If the upper wing connected to the lower wing at the wingtips the drag would be dramatically reduced--essentially like tiplets on aircraft wings. I doubt we'll ever see anything commercial like that, but it's interesting.

I was thinking the upper one would be placed in a similar location as a foil drive: ~8Ē under the board, clamped on like the foil drive is but protruding forward so the balance point stays the same when it comes outÖ the 1095 will have me looking for a place for my 980, maybe Iíll play around with the idea. Maybe 750 down low, 980 up top!?

The idea of multiple foils has been used in the past for sure. Monitor, one of the first foiling sailboats got up to some amazing speeds way back then.
 I guess they only thing is the tips of the higher foil hitting the water in tight turns. This and when pumping or touching down weird things may happen as the top foil goes in and out of the water.

Could you take the bottom half of the box foil and put it on the underside of the board? That could give you extra lift to build take off speed for the main foil, but be mostly out of the way when foiling. Not idea what the drag penalty would be...
