Starship ready for orbit--with vacuum engines in place
« on: October 27, 2021, 09:42:21 AM »
Holy fukowitz, the pace of this development is completely astonishing. Beyond unreal, it seems completely impossible. At the same time the value of Spacex, and its Starlink system, is growing exponentially, fundamentally independent of the Starship effort, which must be more or less a massive drain on revenue and resources with payoff far in the future, though at this pace the future might not be that far off.

How many times a week do we find ourselves saying, holy shit, these days?  This stuff is so amazing and so far out there, that I can only read, wonder about the super minds that are involved, and applaud.

New Mac Pros this week, New Camera generation.  Categories that I have loved to use, and follow the tech from the sidelines since I was a kid.  57 Billion transistors in a laptop, etc.  For so long it felt like years between incremental advancements.  Now the impossible, the unimaginable is coming faster than we can imagine the changes.

Damn, my simulation is powerful!

PS:  What is the host for our simulations anyways?  What system am I running on?

I suspect it's Universe .9 at best. Some elements of the simulation are really plain stupid. All this dark energy for example. Really? We need this? Some "thing" that accelerates the expansion of the universe, comprises 73 percent of the total system mass, and otherwise doesn't seem to interact with "real" matter at all? Dark matter, OK, yeah, sure, a relatively minor head fuck. They build a whole universe and then make only .4 percent stuff we'd recognize, like stars, planets, broccoli, etc.

And this whole Carnot efficiency of heat engines thing. Very irritating. Rust? Mosquitos? Biting flies? Toenail Fungus?

Yeah, more like v.7.

I was jes' Youtubing and came across some bloke in Northern Canada who got this 'Starlink'?!   O'lie C'hit!  I could not get my $99. deposit in fast enough. I gather I may be somewhere south on the list of a reported 500,000 preorders, but I cannot get broadband soon enough. (I have to come to town to record movies and carry home in USB sticks.)

I am within 100mi of the Whitehouse as the crow flies, and have been hostage to crappy wire phones, 1-bar cell service, DISH network and Hughes Net for contact with the outside.

Here's a cool sat porn:  https://starlink.sx    Go to the cross symbol on the upper right to set your home base.

Rumor is that Starlink will go public as a separate entity. It would be worthwhile watching for that IPO, though by now the valuation is probably taking most of the upside into account.
