Hood River advice.
« on: July 07, 2021, 07:06:52 AM »
Aloha! I have couple weeks where my wife and kid will be out of country and I have been learning to wing and downwind foil here in Puerto Rico ( I am a good prone foiler already) I was thinking of jumping a cheap flight to hood river for a week but have never been there. Is there a cheaper surf camp style place with a shuttle for doing DW runs? I am still having trouble going up wind on the wing so I was hoping for a shuttle to have a bit of leaway without doing miles of the wlak of shame.

The Big Winds shuttle isn't running, though there are a lot of people asking them to run it. The legit campsites are solidly booked in summer--especially this year. There's a lot of empty country though. I'm not telling you it's OK, but I've probably slept in my car in the Gorge before I lived here almost as often as I've slept in a bed, and I've lived here more than ten years.

Going upwind in the Gorge is like like doing a broad reach anywhere else, the current declines all summer but it rarely gets below 100,000 cubic feet per second. And all that water goes upwind.
