Traveling Dominic Republic Cabarete
« on: June 25, 2021, 06:15:42 PM »
I've been down in the DR for a week and staying for another. This place is great for winging. Reef is deep for foil. Easy launch with very small to no shore break. I'm at bozo beach which is part of Cabarete beach. It's up wind of the kite beach so you don't have a bunch of kites in the way. I highly recommend putting it on the list for winging. Been on a 5 swing V2 and mantis 4 meter paired with HPS 1050 and smaller.

Thanks for posting flkiter..I windsurfed in Cabarete for years in the 90 when it was a sleepy little surf town. It’s developed much since then , but still a great place for water sports. “ Playa Encuentro” was one of my favorite surf spots there.
Good to hear foiling is good. I knew it was popular with kiters, but good to know you can escape the kite crowds.
The DR has always been a great value as well as great place for water sports.
Are prices there still relatively cheap?

Are you foiling in the waves on the outer reefs?
Have fun

I've been foiling the outer reef, mostly just people on wings and Windsurfers. Plus at the end of the day the wind goes a little off shore so the waves get really clean. The prices have come up for restaurants but cooking yourself is cheap and the accommodation is about $150 a night for 3/3 on the beach. Planning some down wind runs with some of the F1 team for this week coming. My buddy has a place here that he rents https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/25973718?preview_for_ml
Just for reference of what's available.

I'm headed to the southern coast or DR this winter and was really hoping to wing while there. However, I couldn't find any rental shops for wings on the south coast. Any intel? Big, big thanks for any info.

Zero seaweed here. Winds have been great and awesome swell. There's a few rental places in Cabarete but I don't know anything in the South. Best thing to do is rent a locker on the beach so you don't have to carry gear and they usually have compressors so no pumping needed.

I'd like to know what you find out about the south side. I'd guess like in PR the south would be less consistent for swells and not really get any big winter type surf. No clue about wind but my many trips to the south side of Haiti I never noticed any wind to speak of.

Fishman...interesting! I understood that swell direction would be very different north vs south, but hadn't considered that wind would be very different. Great point. I'll let you know what I find.
