Coanda Strips for iSUPs
« on: June 18, 2021, 10:14:15 AM »
Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has seen those strips for sale that are found on higher end iSups to cause waterflow to break away from the tail of the board?  I've seen them come stock on some Starboard iSUPs and some inflatable wingfoil boards, and would like to add them to my own wing, and possibly, iSUP boards.  I have seen some 3D DIY attempts at making them, but I am more interested in something a bit more refined like what is available on stock boards equipped with them.

Thanks in advance!

do you think they do much?  Its something I never thought about - how small do we think the radius of the corner needs to be?

I wanted to make some of these too out of EVA foam.

I'd guess the radius would be about the same as a 3-4" circle if I had to guess. I was going to make a roller I could put in a drill and just sand out the part that mates to the inflatable. You could buy 2-3" thick blocks of EVA and carve these.

Apparently have a sharp-angled tail helps considerably with water release and unsticking the board when trying to get on foil. Fanatic and JP are both including the strips on their new inflatable wingfoil board options. I was thinking it wouldn't hurt to try with my Gong Hipe as it does feel pretty sticky when trying to get it off the water, though this could be just as much its flat base as it is the rounded off tail, causing the issue.  I had a go at making something of an EVA yoga block, but it looks pretty bad so far and I doubt I'll bother mounting it.

Uli inflatable is probably the first company(no longer exist anymore) to come up with EVA foam hard edge for the rear.  I have demo both with and without and I can tell it makes a huge difference once its on the wave. The board is more lock in on the wave instead of sliding around.  I'm not sure how it would work on a wingfoil board through.

It will release the water, just as a hard edge does in all places where it is used.

Round rails hold the water. Make one for that Gong, I’ll bet it helps the tail release. Flat bottoms are fast and good.
