I get all the windy and foily activities, and why they must be fun.

But then I would surf less?  Just continuing the long roll here, hopefully a ways to go.

I like the advice from Mo Freitas, ride everything (referring to SUP, longboard, shortboards).
My main passion was kite surfing but found SUP surfing a perfect complement for the windless and marginal days.
I grew up bodyboarding, never really got into surfing.
SUP surfing has gotten me into surfing midlengths.
I find some days are awesome for kite surfing, some are perfect for SUP surfing, and some are better for surfing.
I try to choose the gear that will maximize my fun depending on the conditions.
Recently, I saw my first wing foil at my local spot.  Seemed to have benefit for cloudy/foggy low ceiling days where kites want to fall out of the sky.
But back to Mo's advice, I find that each of the sports I mentioned, complement each other, where getting better at one, brings a new set of skills to the others.

I still get a thrill when surfing...  hope it never goes away...

Also love the minimal gear and the ability to cover a lot of ground... water

I'd think that forums are simply weighted towards "how to" and at this point, "how to SUP Surf" is literally completely covered by simply searching the forum. I am personally eternally grateful to all who contributed. And really, this site is a book for new stand up surfers if you simply look for the most viewed threads on surfing.

So you SUS guys need to get started talking about sessions, trips, new boards, and all the stuff that is not related to the first 2 years you do something because that's what is left to discuss. Though you are free to have those discussions again, you will just have less folks who are stoked to talk about them.

The evolution of foiling is hot and heavy. But if you go back and look at 2010-2013 or so, you will see the same stuff. Come back in 2-3 years and one of us will be saying the same thing.

Let me remind the old timers of some progression highlights. lol

Everyone on big all-arounders, even racing
Race boards appear
Unlimiteds and DW boards appear
SUP surfboards get "real"
The BATTLE OF THE PADDLE!!!!
Race boards become 12'6"
We all figure out how to get out in big surf
We all figure out how to manage being caught inside
SUP surfboards get short
SUP surfboards get longer
Inflatables happen
Raceboards become 14'
and so on...

If you were here for all this then you know that this current foil focus is just the short SUP trend all over and if you search, a year into that guys were posting, "does anyone surf longer boards anymore?" and before that, "does anyone just go out and cruise on flatwater anymore?" and recently, "does anyone race anymore?"

So yeah, I'm sure people do surf but there aren't 100 SUP companies making them and we aren't seeing 1,500 people travel to CA to race in the surf  and demo surf boards anymore and so you guys who are SUS'ing should 100% step up and post more content! ;)

The other thing that happened is that everyone above Malibu status who posted all the threads started foiling. If you look back at threads there will be thousands of views of a thread that like 5 people are talking on. The admin (and his ad revenue) needs you guys!

So if you surf and you want to see content, post. Because all us blowhards started foiling and all the other short board surf guys bought dirtbikes and mountain bikes.  hahahahaha (Califoilia knows who I mean.)

But seriously, don't start foiling. It's like crack. Stay in school kids. Winners don't do drugs.

I started surfing when I was 10
Years later, I started windsurfing/wavesailing to escape the surf crowds.
SUP surfing got me back into surfing because I could catch waves and paddle to outer breaks proners couldn’t or wouldn’t.
Wind surfing rigging , storage and travel got to be so arduous with too much gear.
Wing foiling
is a nice mix of surfing with sailing with minimal gear and easy to travel with.  Ponds, lakes , oceans, even snow....plenty of options.

I still love nothing better than the scenic 10 mile paddle I did yesterday with my wife and that will never change.  SUP is such a great sport and as hard or easy as you make it but almost always accessible.

I rarely post because my phone won't keep me logged in, but I'm a frequent lurker these days. I'm still all in with SUS!

Very simple,  I pick the best tool for the conditions, it just happens that foiling is better in a wider variety of conditions, here's the breakdown:

No waves/no wind = Work
Flat/Wind - Kite Foil
Waves below chest high/wind below 12 knots - Foil
Waves below chest high/wind 10-14 kts - Kite Foil
Waves (any size)wind >14 kts - Kite directional surfboard
Waves above chest high/no wind - SUP Surf
Waves knee high and not enough depth to foil - Longboard SUP

Thats about it.
