Board Bags
« on: June 08, 2021, 12:51:31 PM »
Anyone got any advice/recommendations for a travel bag for a wing board???  Hard to find much available online.  4'9 x 24.5"

Ideally would like to fit my wing board and a prone board in the same bag.

If you have a travel bag, what bag is it, size, and what do you like/dislike about it?

You can go the custom route.
I got a custom bag made from https://vitaminblue.com/.  I will said don't get it with mylar, my bag have mylar on one side and after a couple year the mylar is flaking off.  And the owner is pretty friendly and he can make whatever you want.

I think Vitamin Blue is out of business. Tried them last year and no email or phone reply. Used https://newfsurfboardnet.com/shop/foil-prone-wing-adventure-bag-ventilated/  for one of Dwight's boards.

I've bought and use both Curve and Abuhub brand bags (for travel) and can recommend both. But for 9'6 ish SUPs...  Don't know if they come in the size you need.

Check with Blue Planet Surf, they sell small wing and foil boards with bags, good bags... and may sell the bag separately.

I always respected Zoner Surafrica's homemade travel bag:

Ive got a few bags, all comes down to what gear Im bringing with me. Have a couple of blue planet bags,SIC and a big old Riviera bag. The airline will play into how I pack as well. If overall dimensions are their main criteria it might make sense to stuff all into one bag. If its weight, Sometimes its two bags. +squeezing in the foil bits, the wing, a paddle and odds and ends for a month stay.

They're still in business, but the owner has been dealing with a personal illness for several years now, and the office staff (I think a relative) is overwhelmed or undertrained in his absence.

I sent an email, and left a of couple phone messages, and no response. Then more than two weeks later out of the blue, I get a phone call form some nice lady who was really little help in quoting me a "rough price", even when I explained exactly what I was looking for, and the size of the board.

She said I'd have to drive the board to Costa Mesa when Frank was in, but then wasn't able to give me an exact date when that might be. Needless to say I'm still in the market for a board bag, and why I'll be following this thread to see what others are finding.
Me: 6'1"/185...5'1" Kings Foil Board...5'7" Kings Foil Board...9'6" Bob Pearson "Laird Noserider"...14' Lahui Kai "Manta"...8'0" WaveStorm if/when the proning urges still hit.

Purchased mine through Big Winds and would recommend adding additional padding for travel - https://mfchawaii.com/shop/hydrofoil/hydrofoil-accessories/hydrofoil-bags/wingfoil-daylight-single-boardbag/
SIC 14' V1 Bullet, Flying Dutchman, Axis Foils, & Goya Sails.

+1 on the MFC board bag.  I bought the 5'4" for my Fanatic Sky wing foil board and love it.

It has quality components, a great vent and the dual zipper to allow you to keep the foil attached.

Hobie Raw 8'10"
Jimmy Lewis Kwad 8'7"
L41 Bruce Wayne 810
Jimmy Lewis Flying V foil SUP 611
Fanatic Sky SUP foil SUP 66
Coreban Rocket 10'6"
Hobie 14' race board

I think we might want to make a distinction between day bags and travel bags.

Im looking for well padded travel bags myself. I hate trying to fake it with a bunch of foam thats going to shift or have to be taped on. Taping up on some island somewhere when youre trying to get to the airport is lame.

Whos selling me an internal board sock made out of recycled 7mm dive wetsuits?

For a recent trip:

- 10' Dakine SUP bag for 5' x 26" FSM and Axis 1150 & 1010 front wings.  Once packed I folded and strapped it to just over 5' long.

- Old Dakine boom bag for Ensis 3.5 & 5.2.  Also in this bag was a Warrior lacrosse gear bag with Axis Standard & Short fuses with tail wings attached.

This worked well as each bag's weight was manageable and well under 50 #'s.

I would like to see a padded wing board with wheels though.
Current:
 SUPSurf Machine 5'/93L FoilBoard
 Axis BSC1060, PNG1150&1010, 390&370
 Ensis 5.2 & 3.5
 Sunova Speed 8'2"
PSH 10'0" Hand Glassed Pulled Nose/Swallow Tail
 SIC 12'6" Bullet SCC
Prior:
 Coreban 8'0" VIBE
 PSH 8'9" Hull Ripper Carbon
 Hobie 9'4" CM Raw
