My setup: 1550  v1, 85 mast, cf300 with 0 shim. My mast is about a 1/2” back from forward. I’m wondering if I should shim the 300 with the +1 shim first or use the 232 with the 0 shim. Will the 232 help with connecting my gibes which I am still struggling with? If anybody has a similar experience I’d love to hear about it. Thanks!

The 232 will feel a fair bit easier to turn and will be faster but a bit less stable. Try the faster +1 shim on the 300 first, see how it runs then try a -1 if you can and see what difference you feel. Then try the 232 at 0, +1, -1. Eventually you won't use the 300 much at all and you'll be chopping the 232 down. Which aspect of jibing is making you struggle? It could be more of a subtle technique change than the tail choice holding you back.

300 is easier to ride and jibe winging. It will auto-carry more speed and follow through in turns. More stable, lower stall.

If you ever want more speed, cut the 300 at the chop lines. Faster, with near zero loss in jibing fun. or low end.

The 232 is more squirrelly. Also forces you to ride mast farther forward in tracks.

For shimming with the 300, use the one with the shallowest angle of attack.

I get mostly turned around, lose speed and then fall down in a big mess. I almost had it on my regular side but nope, big fail. I did notice the board’s nose would rise up so I started riding with both feet more forward to keep it level through the turn.

So I shimmed the 300 with the +1 and it worked! I’m able to gybe through my turn without stalling. I’m going to try the 232 with the 0 shim next. Thanks for the suggestion. I did notice a vibration with the +1 shim, maybe because I’m going a bit faster? Nothing was loose and I wasn’t dragging anything.

Great job! My prediction is that after riding the 232, the 300 will be retired from your quiver 😎
