Ensis score review
« on: August 27, 2021, 06:29:02 AM »
I didn't want to piggyback on the strike CWC so here's some info on the score. Better up wind, windows are usable, handles are stiffer and a nice up grade. The outline was changed so it's less likely to catch wing tips. Great for freestyle as balz has proven. Tighter canopy so it's a snappier power grab.  The leash has a safety enclosure. 3.5 was super tame in over 25 knots of wind. Was even able to flakka with it with no issues.
Now the why didn't they correct this before release stuff, I already tore the Velcro from the leash extension, the strut dips in jibes so it's designed for tacking. Caught it a few times in waves with the 3.5 due to the tail dropping. So you have to hold it high for that style of riding. Bags still suck.

So overall they're a nice upgrade and if you're ready for a performance wing or new ensis, you'll be really happy with these. I would of really liked if they came with the Cabrinha handles but maybe next season.

Are the handles still flat and sharp or more round?

flattish, but very rounded. Sharp is gone. A little more space. No knuckle dragging.

I like the bags. I must be a better kite folder….haha.

Windows are very thin and light. The thinnest I’ve seen used in a wing.

We had some stormy wind today. Was riding the 5.2m when the wind went crazy for a bit. Gusts to 30, average jumped to 23 mph. That’s where the biggest improvement was hiding. Top end control and draft stability. You can’t really see any difference looking at it on the beach.

Dwight takes way better care of gear than I do for sure. He even lets them dry before packing. It's a rarity for me to not have patches in a wing. I've found today that with the extra power that going a size smaller is no problem. As Dwight said about the windows being light, I don't notice any swing weight from them. I'm bad with getting speed comparisons but I'm sure Dwight will get info soon.

Be interested if one of you guys has the 6m and check wingspan and center strut cord as my old since sold V2 6m had a 11’1”wingtip span  X 96” cord on center strut which is why I sold it too wide span, all my other Ensis 5.2- 4.5 -3.5 all hit the mark great wings especially for a big guy, still riding them to this day. Funny was passing through Miami today from NE Brasil back to Calif 26 hr long haul and noticed pretty stormy this morning pretty wet on the tarmac and some nice caps when taking off heading out west wish coulda joined you guys haha, good thread here like to hear more about the score looking to replace my old 6m V2 if it was fixed and my beloved 5.2 which has mega hours on it getting a bit tattered ready for a new one like to hear more thanks

I laid the v2 6m and Score 6.2m on top of each other. Not inflated. The extra 0.2m appears to be all increased tip span. So logic would say the tips would hit more.

On the water, that did not happen, the one and only day I rode it. Weird….so not sure if fluke or real.

Here is that session.

6.2m Score arrived today from Live2Kite. Is everyone ok with folding the windows?
From the Ensis sight "The ENSIS window material can be packed into a small bag without compromising its performance, integrity or durability."

Can anyone who has the new Score 6.2 next time you pump it up measure outside wingtip to wingtip and center strut cord length so I can see how it stacks up with my old V2 6.0 which was essentially a 6.2 or more be curious if any changes were made as didn’t particularly like my old 6.0 V2 hoping they made some modifications as my V2 5.2-4.5-3.5 were great wings, like to get another 6m wing as a heavier rider, but gotta say my old 5.2 V2 has some pretty good low end for a 5.2!thanks

Great videos DW.  The ART foil appears rock steady.  I have my name on one in the next shipment.  It was amazing to see how well you got up in that light wind with the smaller wing.
