Boom strut hybrid wings are coming
« on: February 12, 2021, 12:22:06 PM »
The up and coming wings with inflatable struts that incorporate hard booms handles have a certain appeal to them.  The "coming soon to a store near you" DUOTONE Slick, now has company with the ELEVEIGHT WFS-V1.

I need a 5m wing to fill the gap in my wing quiver and hoping I'll get to try these wings out.

I'm waiting for the Slick. The Eleveight looks decent as well but it's too hard to tell if those rear handles would be needed regularly. I don't want handles at all :)

It seems for now the Eleveight only comes in a 4 metre size --  I think they'll need more sizes if they want to make ago of it.

A nicer version of my fake boom. Mark Raaphorst one-upped all these approaches with a boom made from an old busted windsurf boom. I'm gonna make one of these for my big wings. I have a lovely busted Chinook carbon boom that will be perfect for this.

Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Absolutely, I missed that. I was reading some Tech details that had me assuming other sizes. The 4m only size is a deal breaker for me. At this point I don't know why anyone would want a wing that's only available in one size. Maybe if your already kiting or windsurfing and just want try it out a wing under perfect conditions...

The rear handles do seem strange at first, but it does makes me wonder if that could be a "best of both worlds" application thing going on? Maybe like a better angle for your leading hand, like when leaning into it?

The first half of the attached video in the link below features the Eleveight wing.  If it had more sizes this company might have a winner.

Really? Have you tried a boom? In my not so humble opinion handles suck donkey dicks. Childish, yes, I know, but you started it.

Yep had a Duotone.
Why I do not like booms:
Hard part that damages the board
Hard part to fall on. I crash a lot
Makes the package much larger in packdown
Heavy, weight is huge factor riding waves
I prefer using handles
KISS, love the simplicity of pump and go
Boomed wings behave oddly when flagged out
Plus I do not want to be the odd man out and nobody uses booms here.

I crash as hard and as often as anyone, in fact, I'm more or less a pro at it,  and I've never managed to damage a board with a boom.

Managed it a lot when learning. Front hard plastic to nose of board. And when wiping out in waves.

I'm very boom curious especially on smaller size wings and like the look of the Slick. I like stiff wings so will wait to hear reports first before dropping the £$€...

Thanks for that. Is it me, or does the Eleveight wing seem to have quite a bit of leech flutter in that video, even when foiling normally. It did look quite windy though!

I think partial booms,or a semisoft continuous handle with supports are the future. Both could work, both would be better.
That Eleveight design looks great.

The current short, multiple handle concept only makes sense if you want to fit the folded wing into those cute little backpack thingys.
Marketing BS imho,never used mine.

Apparently Eleveight will have 3m 4m5m & 6m. It was unclear weather this will be in the v1 or V2 said to be coming out in May
