Axis 420 tail
« on: January 21, 2021, 11:46:27 PM »
Anyone try the 420 tail?  They say it’s a shorter, faster version of the 460 with winglets. I have the 460 on an ultra short fuselage and 910 wing. Works great...very stable yet turns fine for me. Curious if anyone has experience with both and can offer a comparison. It’s not like I need something new or better but wouldn’t mind spending some money. ;D

Yeah, running the 420 with the 910 on an ultra short fuse, and love it. Going to try the 420 with the 900 today just to see how it works in comparison to the 460 I tried with it previously, and didn't particularly like it. Just a little too slippery in the tail for my tastes, and hoping the 420 will tighten it up a bit, but still maintain the 460 speed and pump-ability that I liked....compared to the 390 I had been running on it.

Hear you on that one! When I first got my 420 I immediately softened wingtips with some 600 wet&dry as it was down right knify sharp, I only use mine winging not supfoiling in waves feel a bit safer winging its a great winging wing really adds a clip of speed for sure minimal drag, but yeah highly recommend soften the tips up,pardon the pund but good point Califoilia

Yeah, I am definitely going to tone that thing down a bit. At least I'll always be wearing a wetsuit.

I am also loving the 420 for winging. Zero skidding is great.
Still prefer the 390 for carving when kite foiling however. And possibly with SUP too.
I reckon the smaller to be released 380 will be even better for SUP!

All great tails, just depends on conditions, front wing, what one is looking to get out of their setup for the day, and skill level.

I'm finding that as I'm progressing with the various wings, and my style/ability is changing, I'm really liking the faster, looser tails....when previously the 390 was my all the time go to favorite...which now I can't remember the last time I had it on.

I've even got an extra 370 I'm going to cut the tips off of to see how that'll work on a small sup, since a bunch of the prone surfoilers in our area are loving it chopped like that. Should be a fun experiment if nothing else. ;D

340. You'd love it. I assume Axis still makes it. I've never seen or heard of anyone else using one.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

They still make and carry the 340, but I'm looking to go with a flat stab to make it a little looser. Was thinking of chopping the 460, but I have two 370s, so will experiment with one of those...just in case it doesn't work out as I hope.

I've only been using the 340 and 460 lately depending on what I'm riding. But I too am planning on cutting the 370 down a bit. One of these days I'll do it.

I have used it once... I didn't actually find it that loose because it's too thick for HPS wings so it causes too much drag.
