Hello Everyone - New to the Forum
« on: January 19, 2021, 01:01:20 PM »
Hello everyone.  I registered today after a failed attempt a couple of months ago.

I have been following the forum since late last summer and many of the posts have been very instructive and helpful.  Wanted to say hi and thanks.

I'm from San Juan, Puerto Rico, started foiling late last summer, and haven't stopped since.  Had previous windsurfing and windfoiling experience.  There's a very enthusiastic and growing foiling community in Puerto Rico with several different hot spots and frequent gatherings.  San Juan, Luquillo, Isabela and Rincón come to mind.  Summer here is flatter (not flat) with steadier winds in the 15-20 kt average, and winter is more variable with occasional blasting winds and usually choppy and/or with waves.  COVID has been a pain in the butt like everywhere else, but foiling has been a great distraction and therapy.

Hope to be able to bring something useful to the forum and better yet, to see some of you in the water.

Cheers!

Dwight (DW)

Welcome and looking forward to learning about the foiling in PR. Easy flight from Florida!

Welcome to the group. PR is a foiling paradise except for the reef hits. I used to live in La paguera, had a kite boarding school there back in 2002. Went last year to jobos beach, great spot to learn surf foil, can't wait to get back this summer to wing the North shore. Do you ride with Ricky and Patrick in shacks beach? They're loving the wing down there. They were on the fever about it till a grom started catching 20 waves to their one

Hey FoilingPR, I haven't ridden waves in PR since the early 80s. The rides at Gas Chambers are still etched in my brain. Just thinking about all the un-ridden areas between Jobos and Surfers would now be rideable with foils is enough to make my bucket list. Hopefully I can get good enough with the wingding to put that trip in motion. Looking forward to hearing more about your PR experiences

PR has been on our radar for a wave foiling trip.  Looking forward to learning more.

Thanks everyone!

I used to stash the windsurf away by late August/early September and basically mountain bike if there were no waves, or surf if there was a swell.  With the wing foil I basically haven't stopped winging.  Swell with clean conditions I surf, rest of the time, with few exceptions I wing foil.

North shore is absurdly full of places to wing surf during season.  It is definitely a fun time.  Will say hi to Albir and the rest when I see them.  Feel free to contact me for info.

This is a Waterspeed snapshot that gives an idea of the area.

Here’s my last time out from that same spot...

PR really is the best place to visit.
Surf, wind and warm water, plus many off the water activities, great food and a fun atmosphere.
Can’t ask for a better time.

Wingingtanuki, what date was that outing?  Was it the 5th of February?  I have videos of that weekend.

Enero 19 - 24. . Orange 5.0 Swing (which turned out to be too big) so  borrowed Ensis 3.5, and Wasp 4.0 on subsequent days.

I’ll be back towards the end of next week- still working on my jibes, but hopefully can keep up with Kiko and the rest of you guys a little better.

This whole COVID thing has messed up my travel schedule.
