SUP surfing what foil brand should I be looking at
« on: January 11, 2021, 01:02:11 PM »
For those who have been sup foiling for awhile. What brand would you go with?

Borrowing a GoFoil Maliko set up. I知 at the point where I知 able to catch small waves and fly and pump a little. Not many crashes anymore and want  to get my own set up for small mushy waves.

185lbs

Thanks!

My choice would be GoFoil or Axis. GoFoil has a wide variety of wings, the original shapes and sizes make it easy and accessible for beginners and the new stuff lets you leverage your investment as you progress.

Axis is equally (if not more) versatile and has a well-engineered and precise assembly system as well as greater adjustability than any other foil on the market. I started with GoFoil, switched to Axis for a reason that I never executed on (I wanted to make my own foil wings--the axis design makes that feasible) and I've stayed with Axis because they make wings and stabilizers that work for me.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

AXIS. Very user friendly. You'll drown in options.

GoFoil. Full carbon.

Takuma. Kujira, The current hotness.

Lift. Very good, light. They have efoils.

Signature and Unifoil. To advanced for your stage.

Naish. Everyone forgot about them and moved on.

Descending order of who I would choose for you. Getting a used setup first is preferred.

I started on slingshot: cheap, solid, functional, heavy.

Now on gofoil: middle high price, all carbon, bombproof construction, works great. Can get the older wings like Maliko and Iwa pretty cheap (but shipping from Hawaii is $$$)

Seems like Axis is the best value right now: high end performance at middle prices.

Lots of buddies on Armstrong: has been the gold standard of late, expensive but everyone loves them.

For me local support is important.  Being an early adopter there was no one in my area to turn to for advice and support, took forever to figure stuff out through trial and error.  Even the guys ahead of me were mostly guessing what would work.

Now people in the lineup ask me often what to get and I can tell them from personal experience what direction to head in.  But if a beginner buys something foreign that nobody has ridden it's a lot harder to help them.
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

I壇 go Axis too as said just too many options to choose from for me for sup foiling 820 F 440 R short fuse 19mm 75cm mast but I知 a HW,just got the 860 F really liking it after 2 sessions, probably good choice at your weight,or if you say small mushy waves 820 F is a great wing.Axis has a lot of new stuff coming out they say too,and if you decide to get into windwinging again a lot of winging wing options that use same fuse and mast. There mast is rock solid stiff like no other I致e tried especially with my weight which is nice minimal flex and wing fuse connection is top of the line strong well thought out build quality is near the top and decent price point can稚 go wrong IMHO

Price any Picts? Ultra short fuse not the best for learning short be better IMO but if price is right you can just get a short and have ultra for back up and when you get more proficient

Yes. That setup but 760 front wing is my favorite AXIS setup on prone. So 860 should be great SUP. Buy Buy Buy.

I have an Axis 910/460 with ultra short fuselage and I love it. Works fine for me prone or standup. I知 185 lbs. and not very good. :o I had an Armstrong 1600 before and it was an easy transition to the Axis.

Just got off the 860/400, ultra short, 75cm mast today in head high stuff, and had an absolute blast on it. If I had the 370 rear I would have preferred that for what it's worth.

IOWs, if the price is right, and it's in decent shape (ie. Hdip isn't selling it to you...LOL!! ;);D) buy it!!...before somebody else does.

LOL! It went in my "demo" fleet (it just returned from Hawaii), so I could be a little less picky. ;) ;D
