Dinged hydrofoil wing affect performance?
« on: January 09, 2021, 02:41:51 AM »
I got larger wing from eBay and back wing has ding on backside. I thought it got damaged from shipping but seller says it was already like that and it doesn’t affect performance. I can sand it smooth but there will still be dip.

How much does uneven tuning affect balance?

Try it and see, before you do a lot of sanding. If the ding is substantial you could fill it with body putty and see if you feel a difference. I'd bet my can of matte clear Krylon that you won't feel a thing.

It's a safe bet, in blind testing, humans can reliably feel about a ten percent variation in performance. Most of the changes we think we feel are in our heads. You need an accurate way to measure things that will eliminate subjective bias to actually know.

Actually you’re lucky. Now for your first 6 months of sucking you can blame your wing. Those here who bought brand new Axis and GoFoil gear just had to face that it was them.

Get used to saying, “I almost made that move but that dip in my wing threw me off.”  ;D ;D :D ;)
