Good day in Mission Bay

It was pretty solid today, probably 15 to 20+. Sunny, almost warm, lots of wingers out and a few good kiters, and some guys in moths really ripping it up. Holy crap those things are fast.

The street I've been parking on is closed for utility work so I had to park a little walk away. No big deal except it seems my 6M has a slow leak. I had to come in every hour or so and pump it back up. An F-one at three or four pounds is not exactly pumpable. So I hiked back and got my 7m and pump, but opted just to do the pit stop pump back up every hour instead of blowing up the 7M.

If I were rational I'd have switched to the 7M and my 860, but I stuck with the 6M 1150. It worked, I had a blast. Lots of good wingfoilers here, it's a pretty impressive crew considering that they don't get great wind every day like the gorge. The kitefoilers are excellent also, and even though there's a lot of traffic, some of it moving really fucking fast--like the moths--everyone watches out. I had one close call with a kitefoiler who was working through a little traffic snarl in the opposite direction as I was picking my way through. He ducked under my wing--I had to lift it overhead to clear him, but we both laughed at it.

I didn't make a single foiling jibe all day--I didn't have enough glide, but I got two really clean tacks, almost like I knew what I was doing.

Fun day, nice folks. I had a nice chat with a new zone, but I forget his zone name. Given my shitty memory, I'm lucky to remember mine. We're moving from Solana Beach to La Jolla Shores on Friday, but if there's wind tomorrow I'll wait for the last minute to pack. Diane expects me to do that anyway. I wouldn't want to disappoint her.

For active "ailerons" like that to work there needs to be surface sensing of some sort, like a lot of boat foils use--especially the Moths that were zipping around in Mission bay yesterday. I have seen wings with warpable trailing edges that use speed through the water to reduce camber and therefore lift. I think tuning those would be a nightmare.

Other than that, I don't really know what I'm looking at there, other than some really nice carbon work.
