SoCal Wingfoiling
« on: December 03, 2020, 07:11:22 PM »
we had some wind today!!! Super fun. I went to Cardiff Rivermouth. It was almost straight offshore, shifty and insanely variable, like 10 to 30. The gusts were fine but the lulls sucked. I was pretty excited to get in the water and in my rush I got hit by a hefty wave and stuck my foil right through my 5.0. Fuck. I plodded back and pumped up the 4.2. It wasn't really enough, the lulls were awful, but I got a few nice runs. A bit tricky getting back to the beach, but doable, apparently, since I'm not writing this from Japan.

There was one other guy out--he was pretty good--on Armstrong gear with a 5.5 wing. I could have used my 6.0 but it would have been nertz in the gusts. A kite guy also pumped up--non-foiler--but I think he decided it was a bit too variable and too much offshore. If he went I didn't see it. We wingdingers have it made.

I thought the wind was dying so I came in early. It was actually building and I would have been fine--good wind until late afternoon. Might be some more tomorrow. We'll see, if not I'll surf foil, or maybe even SUP surf.

Does anybody know where a kite/sail/wing repair shop is in the Solano Beach area--or a reasonable distance--have torn wing, will travel.

This is why I quit windsurfing here. My sails went from a 5.9 to a 7.2. Forget the harness. It'd hit you and eject you. When that 7.2 grabbed you'd better be ready for it!
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

I just ordered a 7M.

I had windsurfing sails to 9M, but I was trying to go fast. The only thing fatass guys can do better than skinny folks is going fast on a windsurfer.

I like the way you adapt. I wanna fly that thing. I'll bring platform booties.

Keep us posted on sessions. I'm headed to the lake again today. Starting at 20, dropping to 14 they say. Either is good for me.
