Great book
« on: November 28, 2020, 10:13:12 PM »
This is one of those listen to it on audible, then read it, then listen. Lather, rinse, repeat kind of books.

Sean Carrol--the Big Picture. What a mind. I confess to getting a bit distracted when he runs on about the limits of theist arguments. I've always taken a weak (non-mathematical) Bayesian approach to trying to understand life, the universe, and everything--so I don't need much help with questions about god. I thought that was all bullshit from the time I was about ten--maybe younger. But everything else is pure gold.

Get it, listen to it or read it, be a more complete human being.

Haven’t read the book but the author is just mind blowing. I will add to my list. Thanks Bill.

A friend of mine stopped reading the book because "he (the author) kept going on about entropy", which kind of tickled me. I've long considered that if you don't understand entropy then you don't understand science. Actually, it's more like if you don't understand entropy you don't understand anything.

Couldn't sleep last night.  Downloaded the book.  Poetic Naturalism.  I like it.

When you finish that, start on Enlightenment Now by Robert Pinker. Mind-blowing. Something Deeply Hidden and Particle at the end of the Universe by Sean Carrol are also amazing. I just finished those two and I'm about halfway through enlightenment now. I think I'll be reading a lot of Robert Pinker unless I get diverted into Biochemistry as my daughter keeps insisting I do.
