Duotone ECHO v2?
« on: November 05, 2020, 01:07:50 PM »
Just find those images online.
it looks like they are seriously working on something that will hopefully merge in the best way the 2 words: handles and boom.
At this point they should be at a good stage of prototyping since usually they have everything done for the press by February (so shooting with final product has to be done by that time).
but yes, don't forget about COVID

Looks like a centre strut and a boom.  There is a video somewhere on this forum showing Alan Cadiz using a wing with a centre strut and boom.

Very cool, I think it's a good approach
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

wing tips are wide. Probably a 6m. Maybe a 7m.

The competition in 2021 is going to be brutal!  Lots of new wings from the usual suspects and others -- North, Shinn, the Dart from Slingshot, another wing from Cabrinha and Duotone, etc.

Thank you Dwight.
Yes that concept is very interesting, i’m wondering if with that they solve the rolling problem that the Echo usually have in waves.
Regarding that wider shape, Gong came out few days ago with a very similar shape and the owner, Patrice Guenole, said that after tens of prototypes that shape works the best.

I'm sensing that a boom design is gaining an edge and that a firm grip or attachment is better than a limp handle... just look at Armstrong's $100 boom handle attachment, and the Cabrinha mini boom handles as examples.  Full disclosure: I have never winged, but am keeping a close eye on this stuff so I can buy one.  I'm thinking of waiting a little while longer to see what cool stuff comes out soon.

Right now I'm looking closely at the Switch Surf Wing, but that has the limpest handles of all  ;D  and no harness line attachment points.

I'm hoping to see an industry convergence on mini-booms, but this could just be my windsurfing lizard brain refusing to like handles. I tried a 4m Duotone with a boom in way too much wind but made the first foil tack I tried and loved the infinite hand adjustment/no look handling. I don't want to see a full length boom though; too heavy. Cabrinha design looks great. I'm constantly botching jibes missing handles or having to quickly reposition to the right handle in a maneuver.
