Asymetrical SUP
« on: October 28, 2020, 12:14:13 PM »
I have been wanting to try an asymetrical tail SUP for a long time and finally made one, a 9-3 x 32 swallow tail on the frontside rail, and a round pin on the backside rail. After finally getting some nice sessions on the north shore of Maui to give it the real test, I am really stoked on it! The off the tops frontside and the cutbacks are insane and the backhand bottom turn is super smooth. I really think this is a good idea and worth trying for anyone looking to open up your surfing.

I assume more that it is made for goofy footers going either way

I have always thought asymmetric boards made total sense. To the average level surfer it just looks weird. It's like a custom made 911 with the drivers seat in the middle. It's great for the race car driver, but looks to weird for most people to want one. Probably could have Tomo'd that nose down to about an 8'-10 or less.
I still have a 1# sup blank sitting in my shop. Maybe it will be a Simmonds, Tomo, asym?

Very cool....
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

I agree, very cool. How did you decide where to place the fins? It looks like they are asymmetric?

figuring out where to put the fins was tricky, but I pretty much kept them the same in relation to each tail, the frontside tail is longer than the backside tail and a little more gunny.
