What's the best power and weight 6-7m wing?
« on: August 27, 2020, 10:39:17 AM »
Most powerful and lightweight 6-7m wing?

F-one is the lightest I've tried and slingshot v2 the most powerful.

What other 6m or 7m wings are lightweight and powerful?  Cloud?  Armstrong?

As fall rolls around we often get 10-15mph winds and good long period waves, need lots of grunt to get up quickly and then lightweight to flag out and ride the swell...
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Hi Clay,
Being at the "XL" scale too, I am interested in the topic.  I would put 6M BRM in the test mix (I have the upmost respect for the designer).  I would imagine all of the ~6M wings are similar +/- 1M in power.  I am interested in back to back comparison tests for this size range.  Though not light, I would throw the 9M Gong Superpower in the test mix too for grunt.  The Gong 6M Superpower supposedly has the same low end as the 7M Gong Pulse (Gunnar said the Gong Pulse 5M has better low end compared to similar sized Ozone).   Coming from kiting, and testing low wind limits (26M, 24M, 21M, 20M, 17M, ...), when you get to light winds you learn to appreciate size and surface area, and drop down in size as the winds pick up.  I would think a 9M wing would pair well with a ~6M.  For kiting, I can drop from a 17M kite to a 9M, and ignore the sizes in between (12M lacks sufficient power, and is not as much fun as my 9M (turns slower).  And during Sharktober, wouldn't a little extra juice be nice.

Takoon is the lightest 7m iv'e found, not many other make a light weight 7m. Their 6m is about the same weight as F-one, which is the same as the Smik and Switch. The handles on the Switch was a my only concern with that one.  I imagine the BRM is in that same weight class. My Takoon seem a little more powerful than my F-one but i was comparing a 5 to a 6 so really can't say for sure. It just seems to take off differently than the F-one and my gong, like it accelerates quicker if that's possible  Take my power comments with a grain of salt cause there so many variable.
This guy wings a ton more than me  Eric Nelson "I’ve owned 8 wings. 4 Gong, 2 Takoon, 1 Ozone, 1 Slingshot. Zero problems with any of them. I’m pretty careful when pumping up. I like the Takoon the best, very rigid at only 6psi inflation and the most efficient shape that I’ve owned by a wide margin."

Most powerful wing I've tried so far is the Duotone Echo 7m.

I’ve tried quite a few wings in the 6m-7m class and really like the Starboard /Airush freeride wings being 225lb I need that low end.The 7m pulls like a diesel and minimal dreaded wingtip catch that bigger wings are prone too, they also have very manageable higher range to.The Freeride designers seem like they got lucky on these wings first time around as they are very good for a V1 version, very under rated don’t hear much about them.My go to wings are the 6m and 7m in ocean or flat, pretty good build quality too.My 6m weighs just a bit over a Lb more than my F1 6m not bad considering the more beefy build quality.I have absolutely no affiliation with just really like them especially being a HW rider.

Thanks for all the recommendations.  Hard part is trying to line up demoes and maybe even more challenging getting one...

I found this video and essentially what I'm wanting to do, 7m in light wind and waves:
