Trifecta vs UV
« on: August 07, 2020, 11:51:06 PM »
Thinking about buying a new paddle blade. What are the main differences between the trifecta and UV.
I am thinking of just buying the blade and putting it on my carbon adjustable paddle.
Mainly do 10k paddles in mixed conditions and some downwind.

These are very different paddles. Mainly the difference is in the catch. The UV and vdrive have a very solid catch, and the Trifecta has a much softer catch. The Trifecta requires a technically good strike to get the most out of it wheraa the UV and vdruve are more  forgiving of sloppy technique. In practice, people often find the Trifecta junder in the body - but there might be a speed penalty for thst, depending on your stroke.

Sounds like the UV is the go for me then.

It depends on what you want to achieve. If you are trying to improve your stroke technic, the Trifecta will offer more benefits. It is softer on the body as well which makes it more
efficient long distance, especially if you employ lower cadence. It utilizes lower cadence better than the catch heavy UV.

2 of the best technicians in the sport ( Travis Grand and Titouan Puyo ) are Trifecta users and have the most effortless stroke styles. it just so happens that both are great at
long distance and downwind.

I am with Burchas there. I find it good to have a soft catch paddle for flat days and long paddle. And a catchy paddle for confused water. Thatmight be difficult at the price of the QB but it helps with improvement in stroke.

They only have a trifecta in 76" or UV in 82". I am 1.8m and 82 kgs.
I have read great reviews of both paddles.
I really find after 5 k it's hard to keep good technique. Yes I need to get fitter. My avg cadence is in the low 50's.
I had a blade that fluttered once. A Select something. When I paddled normally it was fine but as soon as I pulled a bit harder it would flutter. It was lovely when it worked though.

I rarely paddle on flat days. Mainly wind chop. I mainly paddle in the winter as I am busy in the summer.
Yes they are not cheap which is why I am thinking about buying a blade and putting it on my existing paddle.
Basically a QB blade is the same price as a Gong carbon race paddle. I have read good reports but think a QB blade on my existing paddle will be better.

Trifecta 76, which I've used few times, is perfect imo. I have the Trifecta 86 and it's a great training tool but for every day paddle, I would definitely prefer the 76.
I have the UV 82 and it really is great for confused rough conditions.

For confused water I really like the BlackfishPaddles Salish in 500 and 460
Won't  break the bank and work very nicely.
Their Viento model is the equivalent of the Uv82

UV is more efficient for this imo. though I would try to get the 77 since you are interested in long distance. I use the Hex-Flex construction with variety of custom shafts
to achieve my preferred flex for the conditions. I found the combo of all carbon blade and their diamond shaft to be too stiff for my taste. I'm surprised they ditched their
flex grade offering. This is really short sighted imo.

Another option would be the Werner Apex 76. Very much the same feel as the UV. really good construction. Palm handle is pretty good. Better price.

Both blackfish and Werner are top end paddles and expensive here. Around 400 euros.
I can get a UV 82 blade in hex flex  for 179 euros. They dont have a 76.
The carbon adjustable paddle I have is 680grs. So just put the blade on that for now.

Do you know fir sure that the diameter of your shaft matches the UV?

The Gong Pro paddle has to be the biggest bargain you can get in a paddle. I actually prefer it to the vdtive or trifec5a for surf and downwind. It works curiously well for launching you into bumos/waves. But for distance paddling the QB paddles are noticeably better and the Gong is unlikely to be as strong or durable IMO.

Looks like the ID of my shaft is 26mm. Does anyone know if the quickblade blade will fit this. Looked on their site and couldn't find the info.

Doesn't matter because you have to buy the shaft with he blade. My misunderstanding on the site. Again 400 euros and out of my budget. They will order just blades next time but have no idea when.
