Grand Teton Nat'l Park--Anyone paddled?
« on: August 06, 2020, 02:01:20 PM »
Driving from Portland to Colorado Springs in a bit and wouldn't mind a day or two of exploring and being off the grid.  Looks like Grand Teton is a nice diversion with lots of lakes.  Anyone paddled up that way?  Any recommendations?

Hey Bulky -  The two lakes I've been to are Jackson Lake and Jenny Lake.  Jackson is more accessible as it has stores, campground, facilities, and a marina, all collected in one little compound. I'd do that for sure. Jenny Lake is more off the (tourist) beaten trail, but accessible (there's a lodge there).

I think the trick is securing a place to stay (unless you have your own.)

I worked a summer at Jackson Lake in college. I was the sole source of beer. With great power....

Was back there last year and its beautiful as ever.  Generally no cell service.

Jackson Lake is a great touring lake, and one of the most scenic places you will ever paddle. It's been on my SUP bucket list ever since we did a 4 day kayak trip there years ago. Mosquito can be be fierce in midsummer.

Thanks, DP and SD-- good tips and yes, please.  From the looks of it, all of the campsites are on a first come, first serve basis.  So, I'll load up the truck and figure things out.  Thanks for the tip on mosquitos and if I'm short on funds, I'll do a beer run for the working kids.   ;)
