had a cheap backcountry ozone snowkite harness that wasn't getting much use.. pulled the leg straps off and just threaded the lightweight adjusting waist strap through an old short harness hook/pad... tied my reel leash to the back (removed the metal snap clip and just put a larks head of dyneema which connects to a "stopper ball" connected to board leash plug.... this was an experiment that worked perfectly from the get go... from winging freshwater reservoirs /lakes in Utah to 10 days nuclear gorge Conditions to Virginia Beach Atlantic storm riding and now Great lakes western New York breezy autumn days.
wish someone would make a lightweight composite plastic hook as we just don't need the strength of a kitesurf hook for Winging..

can't imagine riding my long sessions WITHOUT a harness option... it's great tu be able to stretch the neck, adjust the hat, fiddle with the camera... with one hand while hooked in. NEVER felt like I was going to damage my board climbing on.. just adjust your technique accordingly.

I've just been using a rope, tied to front and rear handles.  Works ok, but sometimes difficult to disengage, gets a bit 'sticky'.

I kinda thought having the harness lines wider would be helpful, so you are balancing the top and bottom of the wing at a central point, would help control its angle. But I see both above are just attached to a single handle or two handles.  You find these work just as well?

The Dakine double adjustable harness lines have been great. I attach one to my fake boom and it stays out of the way when I don't want it, doesn't slap me in the face when I'm pumping the wing, and hooks in/out easily. I need to bend the hook a tiny bit more, I've catapulted into the wing a few times and struggled to get free.

Single handle works fine. Order wings not so much, poor draft stability.

Have any wipeouts yet where you are unable to unhook?  Not quite as violent as the catapulting I experience in my early attempts to learn windsurfing water starts. But it does happen pretty quick, I worry about getting pulled onto the wing and tearing the delicate butterfly canopy.   :P

Yes.. I had a few.. It was not a good day to try it because it was gusting 20-30 and over powered at times with the 3.6 wing.. Using the big 1800 HA foil was my next mistake and I should have been using my smaller 1400 foil.. and to top off all my mistakes I mounted my Naish mono harness line on one handle too far back.. I only had a short time to be on the water and tried to just make do with how it was but looking back I should have come in and made a few changes.. The sliding hook on the waist belt worked fine.
