Wing harness?
« on: July 26, 2020, 03:05:05 PM »
Anyone have a great idea as to what kind of harness to use for a wing?  Not the lines but the harness itself.  Obviously there is the issue of poking your board with a hard hook.

I use a belt I made with a DaKine maniac hook with the hook opened up a bit--most of the maniac hooks you can find are kite style. The hook just has loops so you can slide it completely out of the way. Works great.

Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Whoa, just received the pricing of €290! Even if you get to deduct 20% for the VAT that's damn steep. They did not give me a shipping quote.

Italian hand made blah blah blah. Are they making it out of Corinthian leather?

A good idea to recycle ripped windsurfing sails.

Thats what I use as well the DK maniac hook threaded on my 2" velcro webbing waist leash belt and must say it works surprisingly well as the waist belt allows the hook to pivot/flex a bit to not damage my board while being very light hardly know its there.Be nice when one of winging companies comes up with a refined winging waist belt harness combo hopefully in a simplistic lightweight way similar concept.I use the duotone adj harness lines that DW recommended and they are very nice indeed

Tried this a couple of times and wasn't happy. It kept rising up to my chest while hooked in so, I purchased the one DW suggested and all is good.

I made my waist belt as a leash belt at first and added the maniac. I don't use it often, mostly because I don't like the harness lines flapping in my face when I'm pumping the wing. I need to switch back to a waist leash, if only because my skinny FCS leash is probably near end of life. The FCS leash is so dinky and low drag that I barely notice it, even when I step on it it's no big deal, but I know I'm going to want something more substantial when I get back into the ocean.

Part of switching back will be finding some harness lines that work better. That should be easy with my fake boom, I can leave them permanently attached since I use the same boom on every wing. I just need to do it. I'll try DW's suggestion for the duotone lines.

So this video just appeared online with a recommendation for wing use.

I have to completely disagree. This harness promotes a stiff, rigid, no give, spreader bar. This is the type of spreader bar harness hook, that does the most damage to a board and deck pad. I know, I tried the Mystic version, in the early days of winging.

You want a relaxed fit spreader bar/hook. One that is not stiff/tight/rigid and just folds away when it hits something.

Timely Post.

Just ordered the Dakine Maniac Hook.  I was using an old Dakine ROLLER hook and it punched through my board.

Nice, not fun, repair job(s).  My other rail was all softened up as well.   I think from the bar pushing on the rail.   I did the poor mans - Inject GreatStuff foam in 6 holes, let expand an then patch up with 2 layers of carbon.

Hey Dwight, what is the style name/number for those Duotone lines?  That's a great solution.  Also who sells them in FL?  thanks

Naish just released a harness line.

What I like about this Naish harness line and its attachment to a handle is that it is not floppy. This means it will be easier to hook in (and unhook?) and it will be less likely to swing up and slap you in the face when pumping the wing (like a number of other wings that use knot and larkshead to attach harness line to strut.
5'6 Quatro Wingdrifter Pro 105L; Cabrinha Mantis 3.1m, 4m, 5m and 6m; Axis 1000 (1150, 1020); Project Cedrus 91 cm carbon mast (68 cm fuse, 440/5000 rear); 9'6" CRUZ Surf foil SUP (152L); Chinook Thrust 92 Paddle -- fixed 78" length; 'prone' longboards on the rack, kites in the garage.
