F one swing feeder hose leak
« on: June 21, 2020, 10:51:17 AM »
Brand new Fone 6m Swingwing right out of the bag. Pumped it up and noticed hissing coming from the black O ring. Gong sent me a replacement hose with my 7m and it is one piece I believe. Is Fone the same? Should I try and yank it off to check it?
What a bummer! Luckily the wind kicked in enough for my 5m. I was pretty pissed on the beach with my brand new 5’1” wing board from Dwight and a hissing wing!
Cheers

Umm, did you notice that the strut has a separate valve that you need to close? I've pumped my 6M wing up a lot of times and probably half of them I forgot to close that valve.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

You also need to make sure that the pool-toy dump valve on the strut is seated outside of the tube dacron -- if the lip is inside the tube then it will hiss and leak until you figure that out (in my case, about 15 minutes!).

Be very conscious of how wide the 6m is -- it is very easy to catch the wingtip.  I put mine over the top of OBXDave's beautirful new 6m Duotone Echo, and the tips were 9-12 inches wider  on each side than the Echo.

That’s it-the dump valve to the main strut-the little hose with the black O rings-how do I get it off to check it?
Yes Pono Bill I regularly can be heard calling myself “dummy!” for not closing the main valve before pumping up the wing-LOL!

The black plastic hose rings just slide on and off, gently  pull them off.

Yeah I didn't notice the second valve on my 6m, was pumping like mad and getting nowhere lol!
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Actually, I wasn't talking about the main valve--though I often forget to set that too. On the opposite side of the strut from the tube that fills the strut there is a dinky plug thing that looks like it belongs on a beach ball. Very handy for getting the air out of that big strut but a real PIA if you forget to close it.

Hey who put a kiddie pool valve on my wing?!!!
Good god. I looked on the middle strut and there it was totally open! In my defense the 4.2 and 5m swingwings do’t have that valve so I totally wasn’t looking for it. Had a pretty good sesh with it today but could have been more confortable  on the 5m. I liked not having to pump the 6m as much to get started like I do with the 5m. I’m looking forward to seeing what it can do in lighter wind compared to the 7.2 Gong V1.
Thanks for the help!
Cheers!

The first time I pumped up my 6 meter, I was sure there was a leak.  While investigating, was very happy to notice the open strut valve.

Toejammer, what’s the wing span on 6m swing compared to 5m? Thanks.
