Foil marketers: ignoring 'inland' is foilish.
« on: June 01, 2020, 07:24:43 AM »
I understand.. 'A day in the life of a wunderkind in Hawaii' makes headlines and generates envy ...but, check out the quality of kit and skills of these guys, the types of which I do not think have much been mentioned here.

Then, look at the cost of a swell-making machine they require...

This is covered pretty well, but it’s all in Wakefoil and wakesurf media so we don’t see it as much. More related to waterskiing.

This cat is in San Diego actually but I think it’s cool that he does this stuff too which works more inland. He teaches behind the boat and efoil lessons too.

CB..  It even gets larger.  I ended up on a windsurfing list and just got a foil survey summary.  Starboard, who I only knew from SUP, on the Zone, grabs a 25% market share.  There are brands there I never heard mentioned here.  AXIS ...a 1% share?  It's wild.  It's big world out there - suddenly.

Jim

(even at 300k, I could not get the image to post...  there were 19 brands mentioned ('Select' is a brand) and 3% were 'other'. ' Wild.)

Yeah man. I’m actually building a tow foil board for taking back home to “lake surf”.

The real news though is that unlike high performance water skiing or wakeboarding, you can foil behind almost any board. So while the $100k+ boats are awesome, for me the news is that anyone could build a Clearwater foil and get out there. Who knew that foiling could become a cheap sport to start?

Can’t wait for the WakeStorm Costco foil. Haha

They are not ignoring the inland market. The first foil contest held at Cocoa Beach was won by (I think, or he finished 2nd) by a pro wake foiler from a big brand, making wake foiling boards.

Slingshot has pushed this market hard.

I made a custom board for a wake foiler.

GoFoil promotes wake foiling too.
